Cant really tell gameplay wise though since I dont own the game.
I would say support both? That way we get more of these games on steam
They may visually look similar, the comic book design actually fits Mayhem Brawler better since it has.. you know.. comic panels.
But it plays like a beat 'em up, so that's all you need to know.
Ive never been particularly good at beat em ups but I enjoy them immensely. I didn't grow up with streets of rage so its this weird old series to me but that music slaps.
I played Fighting Force 64, I played TMNT on the super nintendo, final fight, golden axe, x-men reign of Apocalypse.
There are many flavors and I've played a lot of beat of ups on steam that weren't my cup of tea and other I avoided because they didnt interest.
I really like the aesthetic they went for, I hope more games are of this art style that Mayhem Brawler has and Streets of Rage 4. I really like the characters, I'm interested in the story and I'm engaged by the gameplay. 19.99$ for a game of this caliber is a bargain.
I really don't get get the assertion that people make when they say this game is a ripoff, it's spiteful at worst, ignorant at best.
If your ever not sure of a game watch videos of the gameplay, you have so much more information as a consumer now than I did growing up.
Reading a magazine or taking a risk and rent some random game that looked cool based on the cartridge art at a local blockbuster, word of mouth at school was part of my experience as a kid since dial up internet wasn't exactly conducive to rigorous vetting.
Don't get lost in the in the cacophony of online forum discussion. Here or anywhere(looking at you gamefaqs)
