An action packed adventure platformer with some trippy and colourful visuals. You are a reaper that go through levels to defeat enemies. The levels are cut into sections where you need to take out them all within each one in order to progress to the next and then complete the levels. Different paths can be taken as there are various routes you can take which leads to various enemies. Plenty of attack moves are available ranging from attack combos, dashes where you end up behind the enemy, tosses where you attack the enemy into the air, and slams. So combinations of these will aid how well you do. Along with these, there are spells and upgrades that are available to be collected. Options are available at the end of the levels so the adventures will differ from person to person depending on what they like to choose. There are also some fun boss fights as well with neat designs. They can also be challenging at times. Playing in co op mode with another person is also possible, which adds another element of fun as you fight together. I reckon the visuals is the highlight of the game because of the colourfulness of the game, which kind of haves some psychedelic and fairy tale feel to it. The platforming is also nice as at times it is not too simple. Sometimes you would need to use your dash ability in order to get to areas of larger gaps. And the combat is fun too, with there being a lot of different attacks and combos at your disposal.

First I was a little afraid that the colors would be to much. But I was amazed how beautiful the levels are designed. I had no trouble at all with these colorful levels.
What also amazed me was the price for what you get.

Though the game there are other versions of your weapon to find. New spells, armor.

Also the kind of enemies are well made and of course the bosses.

For this genre I would give the game 8/10

After 4 hours of gameplay here are my thoughts.

The game is visually stunning and amazing to look at. I thought the colors would be weird, but it flows and is captivating. The art style is both whimsical and creepy at the same time. The soundtrack and sounds are not overpowering and very thematic (as a content creator I turn them down a bit for streams & vods but for normal play you don't need to). Mechanically the gameplay is smooth and the challenge is appropriate. You will get lost in the gameplay and be drawn into the world. The equipment choices and power ups allow for a variety of playstyles - scythes, hoods, armor and spells are plentiful and have all sorts of fun uses. Speedrunners can run through areas once just to collect gear to give them an edge, and completionists can run a stage multiple times to collect all of the rewards. There are also events, shops and quests to add to the depth.

Quirks? Menuing is odd when changing your loadouts for weapons and spells. There are times spells don't switch out right or you switch loadout screens suddenly when you didn't mean to. The events in some stages can't be skipped to start and/or end them, forcing you to watch some things multiple times if you are trying to get all rewards. Also, the quest missions don't always register when you accomplish tasks, forcing you to abandon and restart them.

For $9.99 USD you are getting an excellent value for the game, and up until October 8th you can get it for $5.99 USD (making it an even better value). Plus, how many games do you know of that have a short Reaper with a scythe bigger than him (looking at you Gregg the Grim Reaper). I highly recommend it. One of my viewers bought it already and I gifted two to friends :)

Loved the art style and the bright colors this game brings. However as others have said - the controls seem clunky and not responsive in the fighting side of things. Also the falling petals in the levels became a bit much with such bright colorful moving backgrounds. I found myself bored if I'm honest - and I think that came from the fighting now being fulfilling to me.

I've been looking forward to this game for a while now, and it does not disappoint! The art is beautiful and colorful, the soundtrack is great, and the characters and their stories are so fun.
(My favorite so far is the very fancy frog who lost his hat.)

I can't wait to play through the rest!

If you want to see my first impressions as I experienced them, check out my video and judge Death Tales for yourself. It's visually stunning, the music is satisfying, and gameplay is... mediocre. I'm not sure if this game was intended to be played with mouse and keyboard, but landing specific combos is inconsistent on a controller. Evading enemy attacks is also difficult despite having access to a ready dash. Tighter combat would serve this game quite well, but enemies drop enough health that you're more likely to die falling down a bottomless pit, and spells are satisfying enough. Completing each stage gives you the option between health, mana, and equipment. You'll choose the equipment to see what perks the game has to offer you. During my hour of gameplay, I used a scythe that would occasionally lob a fireball and a helmet that increased the height of my jump. Fighting enemy mobs feels bland, but bosses offer some needed variety.

Of course, everything about Death Tales is visually beautiful, and the music is enjoyable. Two player is where it really shines, letting you and a friend casually wail on enemies and enjoy part of an afternoon together. There are certainly better beat-em-ups out there, but few approach Death Tales' beauty.

I don't know why people don't like this game I really enjoyed palying it the story is great. one thing people don't like it it's so colorfull , I mean dude if you have colorblind don't buy my dude

So far a really fun game ( especially considering the price ). If there is one thing that might

bother people is the bright colors, and flashing screens. But still, thank you Arcade Distillery for the fun game

I started playing this with my son and hes enjoying it a ton! It reminds me of the same play style as Mega-Man. Theres item progression where you get to choose what to upgrade. The art work and style is very nice. I feel this game is a steal at its current price!
