The geyser is the entire area between the ship and the dry tree:

If your world is relatively clean the only enemies in this area can be grasshoppers, flying bugs and some piranhas easy to clean.
this last time, i did not go see it, at least until well after the eruption was over. my fog level shot from >10% to over 50%. there was very little accumulation on my tenting.
i suspect i have to get near enough to the geyser for my tenting to render in order for the fact the geyser is tented to register.
I think distance doesn't affect as long as the mouth is covered by a tarp roof. Make sure you have covered it completely and that it is not the big eruption of the lake geyser
The original position has changed. Before they were all in the initial part of the map, now there is one in each city. The least accessible is the Hazerville geyser, since you must go to the new area of the city. You can go to the villages and look for them before they erupt.
I think there are still 5 little ones. The only ones that maintain their location are the one in the skulls house and the lake crack.
i've since managed to tent off most of the geysers on the map, with the notable exceptions of the hazerville pit, and the great piss lake geyser. about a quarter done with the construction on the latter.
