Formula car is the best.
And it isn't even close really. Maybe Roadster and Prototype can win now and then but the Formula is just way too good.

Even the AI does way better with the Formula.

That would explain why it's giving me absolute hell on Alpine and Countryside, where it just zips around the corners like it's on rails, while I get cornerbombed into oblivion. :/

Yep, Formula and Prototype are by far the hardest AI to race against. The combo of good speed, acceleration and handling creates a winning combo.

When you get behind the wheel of the Formula the handling is almost unreal—you can take the tightest turns with ease.

So how is one supposed to win against them on Alpine and Countryside if one doesn't have access to them? As far as I'm concerned, it's so disgustingly OP, I'm wondering why the player has to face it already in the second championship where he likely doesn't have a fully upgraded car.

Spend all your money on one car, set the difficulty to easy and remember you can be 2nd or 3rd to pass a race and unlock the next cup.

I've found out that the Racer is the closest you can get to the Formula statwise, so it can beat it in a straight fight if fully upgraded.

By the way, was the option to buy the Formula for 5.000 dollars always there or do you have to unlock it first?

Think it was always there.

I agree, it's the best car. It's even faster than the BigRig which has a much higher top speed. Those bars don't mean much. Just go with what feels right, which is the Formula car that can win in any kind of terrain (which is of course not true to life, unfortunately).

I kind of suspect that the top speed stat actually does nothing, or the stats are straight up inaccurate to the car's actual performance. Formula should lose on the straights to almost all other cars, but it actually passes most of them in the straightaways. I wonder if the game accidentally reads a car's handling stat as its top speed instead or something.

I happen to use Formula as my main machine.

Idk how this thread still alive, but I'll vouch for Touring instead. It has the most tremendous accel, has better high speed and still has high turn rates. While formula has more grip, this has better accel and speed, allowing me to overtake formulas with small drifts and corners. Not to mention stronger boost because of the solid accel.

Seriously, give Touring a try. It's like having the best balance between those all stat except for Nitrous.

Touring has just enough grip that it will slide well into 60 degree turns without actually losing speed. In hard turns, Touring can catch up with the accel faster, so it's really advantageous. In straight, the extra little speed also will leave Formula behind.

My rotation on Cars:
1. Touring (almost for every track, usually my first car to go on my first 10 runs every track)
2. Formula (for 180 tracks such as grand prix, that is, if I cant arrive in hard first place with Touring)
3. BigRig (only for big straight maps)

For this, top speed stat wise is true. But what's top speed meaning if there's not enough place for the car to speed up with? You need accel stat to climb the speed, and then a turn reduces the speed, where you need handling to prevent it. In straights, Big Rig will always beat racer/formula, but in normal cases, Big Rig couldn't reach it's top speed before the next turn so it's useless... So there's your answer.

Someone's holding all of the Formula mains at gunpoint. But I don't hate on that car, it's got great handling and does well on twisty courses. However, the Touring car will outclass pretty much any other car thanks to the insane acceleration. Choosing the formula car, you lose the consistent speed and acceleration of Touring, so you'll lose to that car on fairly straight courses.
