just a suggestion xD
The puzzle isn't randomised, its always the one where you stand on the lit tile and it lights up another that you then stand on.
It takes a couple minutes to complete and ensures people know how the game works. There are so many people who do not know case files exist and we often get asked things like "where is the backrooms chapter?"
We've seen an increase in new players playing the case files since. You have to remember, we get constant negative reviews saying the game has no replayability, only a 6 chapter story mode etc when 70% of the game is now in the case files. Also, the amount of people who try the same tactic repeatedly on the monsters and then say they're bugged is astonishing. We've seen so many streamers who run away from smiley each time, or just stand in the hedges over and over with the witch. The tutorial allows us to directly tell people to try different things if it's not working and to try figure out mechanics rather than assume them.
Many games feature some form of compulsory tutorial, ours is short, just a few minutes long and let's new players understand what the game has to offer and how to deal with things.
I think that it's fine to have it be required but you may want to look into the tutorial looping on start-up if you don't complete a case. I was messing with settings and had the game crash and upon restarting was forced to redo the tutorial - I may mildly disagree with a completely compulsory tutorial, this one seems like a bug.
Heya, that's a known issue we'll be looking at when we're back to work tomorrow :)
It's a one-time thing that takes 2-3 minutes to complete.
The devs are incapable of understanding why people that aren't new to the game, don't care for the crap cosmetic, or simply don't want to do a tutorial, wouldn't want to be forced into a tutorial. The fact that no choice was given at all... that in of itself speaks volumes to the many issues still present in the game. Just like how long it took for toggle sprint to be put in a game where you do nothing but sprint the entire time.
It's not that we're incapable of understanding why people would want to skip it; a chunk of the people who would skip it because they've played before are the ones who need it. We regularly get people joining our discord and asking about chapter 7 and there are plenty of reviews of people saying they wished there was more to do other than playing the story again. A lot of people played the game a while ago and they don't understand what cases are. This cropped up time and time again and we watched people just skip through the lobby tutorial when we had that.
We get it, some people, don't care for cosmetics or running procedural content, that's fine. But there's a huge amount of people who love that gameplay loop and they could be missing out because they never checked out the cases. Given the choice, I imagine quite a lot of players would skip the tutorial and miss out on that information.
The tutorial is short, like really short, and just highlights some crucial information in a way that isn't just a series of text screens. It's a one-time thing too so once you've done it, you don't need to worry about it again.
