Renting and skills?

I'm finding it hard to raise expertness of Darcy's and especially the recommendation skill when my likeability gets high enough that all my expensive items get rented out. How do I get these up when none of the rental stuff affects my skills?

You can't rent items forever, eventually they get sold and you get the reputation bonus (if they don't get lost).
I wouldn't worry too much about min-maxing your reputation, especially expertness of darcy (appraisal rating) is really hard to max out, I never got over 9% for that one. For the recommendation rating it's really important that you always have items for the clubs (history club etc.)
