Touhou : Shooting Star | 東方流星譚. This game is a Touhou Project fan game from the doujin/indie circle team 星屑ラボラトリー and publisher T-Works. It features the 3D bullet hell battles across the Gensokyo world where touhou project characters solve mysterious events by flying themselves.


The first impression reminds us of the Touhou Mechanical Scrollery(幻想討幻経) that is another Touhou Project fan game themed on 3D Bullet Hell released on Steam a few months ago. Actual gameplay is somewhat similar to each other, but there are unique features for this game.

You play as a human magician named Marisa Kirisame. Each stage unfolds in the form of defensive matches in the 3D space where you can fly or walk freely. Enemies from all directions approach you. You have to defend your touhou character by defeating them. Some stages have gorgeous boss battles.

Upon clearing the stage, you will have a grade based on your achievement, which will be linked to the reward, and those things will be used to enhance or decorate your playable character. The game has good potential, but there is a lot to be polished. The English translation is partially localized, and the game is not optimized. However, this game provides an interesting game experience for the player.


Touhou : Shooting Star | 東方流星譚. This is definitely a pretty interesting Touhou Project fan game. This game contains good potential. It would have been better if the game had started with Early Access. Of course, some elements need to be polished a lot. If you are generous or do not care those things, you will have enjoyable time in this game. Looking forward to future updates. Recommended!

First of all I should mention that this is a bit of a horror to play for non Chinese or Japanese people, as the translation to english is barely coherent at all. It's bad, but it's something I guess.

However the story is pretty simple and if you have a basic understanding of how most of these touhou fangame stories go (There is a random incident, Reimu is too lazy to do anything, you go from house to house to check if someone is the culprit), you should feel at home fairly easily.

I cannot speak for the performance or the controls on a regular PC setup as the game sort of forced me to play in VR-Mode once it realized I had an Oculus VR-Headset connected, but I just went along and after somewhat understanding how to use the controls after a 20 minute trial and error session, the game began to be pretty good and kept me interested until I stopped due to motion sickness about an hour later from then!

(I am not great with free turn locomotion in games, so freeflight in all directions is sure to mess me up, you should know what you're comfortable with before playing these types of games, I would say you need to be pretty much unaffected by motion sickness at all to not get there at some point with this game, but I don't mind that a lot)

I think the hardest to grasp was how to use weapons in the first place.
For that you need to hold a Button on the left Controller (I think it was X on my Oculus controller) and then use the right stick to toggle the weapons on or off. Multiple can be on at once but drain more magic, you'll get it from here.
Another Tricky one was how to open the map, that was by first pressing the Y button on the left controller and then the B Button on the right controller.

I really hope this game gets some people Interested, I think it deserves it. Also Touhou games in VR need rep in general!

Lots of fun. This feels like it might have drawn inspiration from minusT's videos, because it often feels like I'm playing one. The dressing room is a nice touch, although I wish you could choose what your equipment looks like so you don't have to choose between style and stats... but that's a pretty minor detail. The danmaku is beautiful, and you are given a variety of weapons(options) to choose from.

So far good concept and 3D version of Touhou. Only thing I would bit fix is an English localisation, UI, Optimalization and kinda smoothen up models. The Controls also feel bit weird.

This is a potential and bold game.Give some time,it will become a first class game.(of course,enough money)
