RPG style progression elements could definitely make things interesting. Work different jobs to level up the player's stats as well as his relationships with the girls (whose values could be influenced by said stats). Buying a house and/or getting one (or more?) of the girls to move in with you could make for a nice end goal.
Some level of randomization would be welcomed. Hang out at a place while training your stats or for whatever reason, have a random girl show up based on her interests in the location, her relationship with you, certain story beats, or any other factors. Enough little random or semirandom things going on could keep things interesting while leveling up the girls' relationship values enough to trigger the next part of their story routes.
Most of this game was spent one-on-one with the girls. Maybe have story events that have them interact with each other more, or find new situations to put them in.
I really like the way the characters are written. Especially smug Melody and Succubutters just tickle my fancy right.
So many things just work in this world, so I think having a new mc getting transported to a new world just like this one could work. What I do wish for is to have more choices where you want to live, and ability to move from one girl to another.
I liked cave adventures with Butters, but buying new gear only got you more money and not new events, so that would have also been cool. Like living with the girls, doing more tasks that would give you new scenes.
Also as a sworn member of fellowship of buttlovers, I wish for more anal scenes and face sitting, please. I would actually have been happy just with Buttlovers DLC for this game :D
Edit: Also, I really like how clothes on the characters look, so I think I'd rather have them not be naked all the time :)
And, well, even more domestic scenes with girls without intimacy.
THE MOST IMPORTANT THING: the opportunity to cook breakfast for a girl.
As for the sequel, few ideas:
1) Definitely I'd like to see improvements to existing system, RPG elements and more freedom when making decisions are warmly welcomed.
2) More places to go, more girls to settle with - hell that'd be awesome if you could move in to the palace! Or if you decide to go to college
3) Make actual challenge with heat season ending at some point - I know I'd be pissed that I couldn't finish it on time, but now after 50 days I've unlocked everything and... not really have a reason to go back for a longer while
4) New "scheme" could base on some evil red-horned tyrant lurking from far away lands, or some centaurish guy feeding on magic/lust/whatever.
5) As a sidequest, maybe some rich stallion trying to buy himself a wife...
And more exact requests:
- SCOOTER!!!! I really missed this third non-flying crusader here!
- Own (or borrow) laptop to contact with girls online (+extra scenes)
- Griphons! Or Hippogriffs! Or Mer-mares! ...Or all of them!
- ...y no pony-Dawn... T^T
Some light CRPG aspects that don't pull away from the immersion that the visual novel structure provides could be nice; the choices you get in Butters' route worked well in this regard.
Ultimately though, what you're inspired to do is what will bring about the best game.
A couple thoughts about things that would help your sequel stand out from the original:
1) Characters being clothed by default; that's part of what makes Butters and Dawn so enticing.
2) Player choices that make more of a difference in what happens in the game besides a couple lines of different dialog.
And if I get to make one request, it would be... more scenes with the Princess of Love. But less sacrilegious, heh. (Augusta is best princess) <3
I put a kid in Butters, and by god I want to raise it too.
(I'd also gladly put another kid in her too)
Butter's Succubus side dealing with being a mom is also a fantastic dynamic with a lot of potential.
I'm sure you can get some practice in with this. Even if its a very short two to five frame thing, I'm sure people will like the results.
A lot of players mentioned wanting preg content. While I wouldn't mind seeing some of that either, it should not be a main consideration. If it is implemented, it could take the form of dream sequences or the character being polyamorous (the player certainly is) and thus the father being someone else. But again, this isn't a big deal and shouldn't get priority.
I wouldn't mind seeing story updates either. The effects of the player's actions from the first game should be acknowledged even if we're playing as someone else in the sequel. This can be used to try to fill in any plots or plot holes that are left unresolved. If the player from the first game is used, then the sequel needs to either be able to read that old save file or, and more simply, ask what that player's name is.
Multi-lingual support is a requested feature from what I could see in these forums. So asking some fans to do translations and some to confirm the accuracy of those translations may be appreciated. Specifically some languages for countries where this game can be sold.
Can the player can choose the gender of their own character this time around? The first game didn't give the player a choice in the matter; the player character was always male and the only time they weren't was when they got zapped by a genderbender spell for one sex scene.
And if we are playing as a new character, can we decide wither we're a human or a resident anthro pony (which is a permanent choice)? Maybe we can use a transformation spell/potion to temporarily change species for a scene?
