It's a ton of work, more than the average player realizes. Just the performance tuning required for that system is enough to give devs headaches, or completely down scale features/graphics. I've played games on the Switch that were nothing like the version I owned on PC, for example, because the power and performance requirements for that system are more restrictive than what you can get out of a gaming PC.
And as far as other football games on Steam...Legend Bowl is probably doing better (review and interest wise) than any other indie football game on PC. So, I would caution against using other games as a reason/suggestion for things you'd like to see; especially if the information is false.
