Stuck at 720p
Hi guys,

Just bought the game, but no matter what resolution I choose, the game seems to render at 720p. I also tried changing the resolution in gameusersettings.ini to 4k - but still, only 720p.

Is there a fix for that?

Thanks in advance!

Same problem. Already reported several times in "bug report", but no reaction from the developers. I am considering a refund. It's a shame, I was really looking forward to the game, but I don't want to play it like that. :(

Pretty sad, can't play like that either. I have a 55" monitor right in front of me, 720p is unbearable!

Just bought the game and i'm having the same issue, I'm gonna try to unistall and reinstall to see if it fixes it but if not i'll just deal with it and wait for it to be fixed. Also the sounds seems to be really compressed for some reason.

Reinstalling didn't help for me. I guess this is some Unreal engine bug, but I'm not motivated enough to go on bug hunting. Since I've read something about a VR version here, I will just wait and hope for it to come out.

From the dev:

one gamer found a temporary solution can you try this
Go to
C:\Users\YOURNAME\AppData\Local\Theisland\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor/Engine.ini

At the bottom, leave an empty line and paste the following

[/script/engine.localplayer]
AspectRatioAxisConstraint=AspectRatio_MaintainYFOV

Save the file and then in game you can use the FOV slider to adjust to your liking.

This sadly has no effect on the resolution, just reinstalled the game to test - still renders at 720p, even if set to 4k.

That does it! Unfortunately it also makes the desktop unusable.....

BeReVo1988 discovered that this issue is caused by Windows' 'scale and layout' setting. At settings over 100%, the game locks into low res and rejects fullscreen, as described by me and other users. Setting it to 100% resolves the issue, but if course has implications elsewhere. Hope this sheds some light.

Finally about to play a little bit, I'm so excited!

oh awesome we will see what we can do about it then awesome thing you found out
