Pretty sad, can't play like that either. I have a 55" monitor right in front of me, 720p is unbearable!
Reinstalling didn't help for me. I guess this is some Unreal engine bug, but I'm not motivated enough to go on bug hunting. Since I've read something about a VR version here, I will just wait and hope for it to come out.
one gamer found a temporary solution can you try this
Go to
C:\Users\YOURNAME\AppData\Local\Theisland\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor/Engine.ini
At the bottom, leave an empty line and paste the following
[/script/engine.localplayer]
AspectRatioAxisConstraint=AspectRatio_MaintainYFOV
Save the file and then in game you can use the FOV slider to adjust to your liking.
This sadly has no effect on the resolution, just reinstalled the game to test - still renders at 720p, even if set to 4k.
