Ages End Too Abruptly – Let Us Choose When to Transition!
Okay, I have to vent a little. The way Ages end in Civ 7 is frustrating. One moment, I'm setting up my civilization for a crucial conquest or battle, and the next—bam, new Age, all my plans get cut off, and I'm scrambling to adapt. Sometimes, I don’t even get to fully experience the crisis, and it just feels... unnatural.

I think the best fix is to let players decide when to transition rather than forcing an abrupt shift. Here’s why:

More Strategy – Players should decide when to move forward instead of being forced into a new Age at an arbitrary point.
More Realistic – Civilizations didn’t all advance at the same time—some rushed, others lagged behind due to struggles.
No More Wasted Effort – No more half-finished buildings or policies suddenly becoming useless.
Better Crisis Resolution – Crises often feel rushed or unresolved when the Age ends too soon.
More Player Control – This is a strategy game; we should have control over major progression choices.
Even a better idea would be to only transition once my civ has successfully overcome the crisis. This way, Ages wouldn’t feel like arbitrary time blocks but actual challenges that must be dealt with before progressing.

What do you all think? Would you prefer a transition timer, the ability to choose when to advance, or a system where overcoming the crisis determines the shift?

There should at least be an option for a soft transition. like a 10 or 20 turn window where you have the option of clicking the transition button or finishing up something you were just on the edge of.

just one more turn........
Yeah I wish there was a way to buy some extra time 5-10 turns maybe if you needed to, to finish a wonder or war.

Or even put in a game option that player can choose when age transition happens after conditions are met.

It would be cool too if once the 100% age progress, then it triggered a 10 turn countdown, like from Civ 6. I feel like in Civ 7, the progress, will say 80%, then 6 turns later it's 94%. It moves too fast.

It's worse too in the Modern age, I never, never, not once, in my life, ever had a game end in Civ 6 from a score victory, unless I disabled all other victory types, which I have done before, but that doesn't count. In Civ 6, a standard game would be 500 turn limit. The game was always over by turn 300. Maybe on lower difficulties it could go on longer, but on Deity, the AI gets that space port spam and will get themselves a science victory before turn 500.

I already got 2 score victories in Civ 7, both because there were no artifacts left when I was going for a culture victory. Which seems do be like another issue, artifacts should not be the only viable end game for a culture victory, there should be other ways to get points (other than over building, that's so RNG).
