Launching Game Fails - Investigation Notes -UPDATED 2k scamming
On windows 10 when launching game on steam you get the executable selection menu for Vulkan API or DX12. Selecting either causes the game to "start" but then immediately close.

Opening the files directly and running the Vulkan EXE results in it opening within windows where it is registered as a "background task". It will then close the EXE and run the DX12 EXE again as a background task. Then it will close entirely. EOF

Launching from steam as DX12 selecting it from steam launches as a background task where windows 10 will suspend the game as if it is a standby program before the game tries to wake it's self up. It will do this 3 times and then fail to run and just close.

ADDENDUM: I have been emailing with support since minutes after this post giving them this same information. The responder supposedly named "juan" has been blowing me off... S/he has been trying to say the total failure to launch the game is due to my CPU "not meeting minimum requirements".

My CPU is indeed older than the PoS Ryzen 3 1200 BUT it is also superior in every way and I can still run modern games such as mechwarrior 5 clans, all battlefield games, darktide, elden ring, hogwart's legacy and many more including highly CPU demanding games such as victoria 3....

This claim also completely ignores all the messages placed here on steam and likely throughout their support system with people running the newest generation CPU's and having the exact same issues launching.

A slow CPU absolutely would nae cause a CTD without error message and prior to any application window visibly opening. Nor would it cause the EXE to run as a background application. Nor would it cause the EXE to close and autolaunch the other EXE in the folder.

I am updating this to let any reading it know that the only way we are going to see a fix is if EVERYONE goes absolutely ballistic on 2k. I do nae believe firaxis is even being made aware of our messages since it was nae a firaxis support that responded to me but instead the publisher. I love firaxis and have for decades before and after they became firaxis but repeatedly have ran into issues and seen others have issues directly because of 2k.

"Juan" won't even acknowledge there is a widespread issue which may be seperate of my own issues. Just straight up refuses to do ANY support or acknowledgement of the issues.

Which CPU do you have ? Old ? May be Civ7 requires CPU with AVX2 support ?
I had a problem where the game wouldn't launch in steam on windows through bootcamp on mac. The play button would show launching for a second and then turn green again and crash. My solution was to download the updated Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable from https://visualstudio.microsoft.com/downloads/ After this is loaded perfectly. Not sure how many people have this same issue, but this solution worked for me.

IT DOESNT REQUIRE IT. THEY CHOSE TO EXCLUDE TENS OF THOUSNADS OF FANS OF THE GAME FOR WHAT?? MY 8 CORE 3.6GHZ AM3+ RUNS EVERYTHING AND ANYTHING. 20 GB RAM, R580 RED DEVIL, I SHOULDNT NEED TO BUY A NEW PC TO RUN A GAME WHEN IT CURRENTLY RUNS EVERYTHING
I have the same problem. This needs fixed or a lot of people will just ask for their money back. I will soon if this crap doesn't work shortly. What a waste of money.

Agree. I'll wait a few days and will ask a refund if this is not fixed.

Supporting the AVX2 compatibility as the likely culprit. My spouse's build has a CPU that can run AVX2, while mine is limited to AVX1.1, and his gets up and runs just fine. Seen in some threads elsewhere that while the game itself doesn't utilize AVX2, Denuvo (the anti-piracy software the game uses) does, which is really frustrating. I'd heard there was some displeasure with the inclusion of Denuvo but I was willing to give it a shot - but not if I have to rebuild my PC to do so.

Keeping an eye on this thread in case it get addressed via update or workaround, but if I can't even launch the game I'm going to have to ask for my money back.

Thanks for the informations, it seems obvious now we can't launch the game until a big fix.

Yes Game Civ 7 tries to start but fails; now Steam wont even help me. Has Firaxis done its homework and tested this game before releasing? And guys, yes I do have latest video card driver, so let's look somewhere else.
