Crashing in Civilization VII?

We’ve seen a few crashes in our data and want to help those who may be experiencing issues playing the game.

Game says it's launching and then the button goes back to 'play' after a few second.

Same here but I'm on an M3 Chip MacBook Air (not Intel). Also on Sequoia. Weirdly it was working fine earlier today, and now is not - can't see any updates to either Steam, or MacOS, or the game itself that have happened in the meantime.

Wanted to say that this also fixed it for me. As a note, those legal docs aren't in the Steam folder but in the %appdata% folder.

EDIT:

"Just tossing this out there and how I fixed that crash for myself. go to %appdata%\local\firaxis games\Sid Meier's Civilization VII I deleted the legalchoice and legaldocument. It was crashing from the dumpfile due to both being empty. Upon startup it has the accept legal document again and good to go so far."

Good morning to all. I am an avid CIV player but have the computer understanding of a 6 year old. So I made a lot of research. I am running a Macbook pro M1PRO chip with Sequoia.
I tried everything and I mean everything. Deleted the app, redownloaded it twice, made my OS up to date. Literally everything.
Game would crash upon opening (if connected to internet) or crash after the introduction video (if disconnected to internet). Sometimes (no correlation) it would just open the main menu on a black screen, I could hear the music but nothing else.
So for the people like me who are not computer engineers on their spare time. Here is how I finally fixed it.
Click command + space bar
Type in : ~/Library
Choose : Application Support file
Choose : CIV 7
There are the two files, Legal choice and legal notice. Delete them (I even deleted them from the trash bin, but I don't know if that makes any difference)

Magic, your games now works online and offline

Thank you louisalexmorin! This indeed fixed the problem. At least for now. I read about those legal files from another topic but it was for PC. Couldn't find them for Mac which I use. And there are so many possible solutions that it's hard to know which fixes your issues.

Crashes on game map generation and trying to load a save game. if it lets me generate a map

Tried both DX12 and Vulkan, click on play, get a screen with corporate logos sometimes, otherwise just black screen and crashes. Curiously worked for about 45 minutes the first time and then never again. Checked drivers up to date, uninstalled CIV and reinstalled, rebooted, still no change

It was playing fine the first day. Today, it won't even start. I get the message:
"The App not initialize failed in 'willFinishLaunching error with exit code 1"

I narrowed it down to a language-based issue. If I switch languages to German (from English) the game works fine. Obviously, as a non-German speaker, this hampers my enjoyment. :)

Other attempts: restarting, repairing, delete game overlay, etc. Nothing worked until I switched languages.

Not thrilled to have spent $70 for a game that within 24 hours is unplayable.

Game worked for 7 hours. No major issues. After synching 2K account to unlock Napoleon, the game refuses to start. Doesn't matter what I do. So, I unsynched the 2K account, tried reinstalling the game, tweaked graphics settings, played offline, etc... nothing works. This is true if I launch in Steam or NVIDIA App. The game simply will not start. Disappointing.
