Since you're all in for the full amount anyway, try to be optimistic!
Look at Dragon Age Veilguard. The game came out about two weeks ago, and it topped the charts for a while. Yet the refunds are skyrocketing and the game is being traded at Gamestop so fast that used copies of the game are flooded and being discounted with a trade-in value of only $14 cash.
Not so many customers nowadays read descriptions, or even do basic background checks before buying.
I tend to research games quite carefully but I've learned that there are plenty of folks who do next to no research at all and complain later that they 'expected' something different. With a well-established franchise such as Civ, it's reasonable to expect to get more of the same.
you must be aweful at keeping your economy up in civ games..
And that's my biggest selling point.
Aside from a dozen other very important artistic, technical, and gameplay changes.
If that's your only gripe, then I have a feeling you'll be crawling back within a year to take the game for a spin.
Especially after the game parks the bus in Steam's top 20 and never leaves.
Civilization VII patiently awaits your return.
