what i should have said, is the fact that the game is designed to work on console is it impeding what they can achieve in the game?.. is it holding back and limiting the depth the game could potentially deliver.. like the game will probably have to limit its use of hardware resources.. limitations that are much less if the game is designed exclusively for pc.
Comparatively, for paradox games to work for console they have to reduce the game's hardware requirements and make the game more simple.. Granted paradox strategy games are much more complex than civ, but should civ also not innovate and increase the complexity of the game for the modern gamer? or should they keep shoveling old, same old?
so i envisage the game will be much the same with very little innovation, you just know the diplomacy is going to suck, but that is a guess... if there is no innovation there is stagnation, and rot starts at the core and spreads overtime.. it can take a long time, but will spread none the less.
The sad thing is i can almost guarantee nothing about the game will surprise me..
So because it is designed to work on console i envisage, poor graphics with simplistic animation's, with a shallow menu system, terrible AI and bad diplomacy.. nothing to overload the console so the turns will be faster
Do you appeal to the hardcore old-fans that play caveman2cosmos mod? , if so you are going to make an excellent game for that audience but won't sell much.
Do you appeal to the masses and try to reach as many people as possible? if so you are going to have a very mediocre product that doesn't excel at anything and forgotten in a few years, but you will have more sales.
Yes; it will dumb down as much to Tic-tac-toe level as possible for a few extra bucks.
