It was disappointing to watch the reveal and...
realize I don't like it. At all. I wasn't really hyped to begin with, but after 1700 hours with Civ VI I'm a bit sad still.

Look, the Humankind-esque civ hopping is a terrible feature, no matter how you go about it. It erases a civ's identity - you no longer play as French, or Russia, or anything. You play as this weird mish-mash of ideas. And even though as someone with degree in history I really get it why "evolving" Romans into French would make a ton of sense - as a videogame, all it does is just kills immersion.

If you make civs exclusive to the first player who picks them - it's bad design, because it forces the player to make a choice between a single playstyle, optimized for getting the first pick of a new civ, or settling for a random leftover one. And if you allow everyone to pick whatever civ they want - the uniqueness is lost.

Moving along, I just don't see why I should be excited for Civ VII, what does it do that previous games or Humankind etc. did not do already. Visually, some parts of the game look like Civ VI, while the others actually look worse and dated, leaders in particular. The tone is kind of a mix between more realistic Civ V and more cartoony VI, but without really leaning into any direction.

I'd love to say more, but the problem is we just got a talk show masquerading as "gameplay reveal".

And finally, I open the store page. What I see makes Firaxis probably one of the most cutthroat gamemakers in existence next to the likes of EA and Ubisoft. Advanced Access. Civs locked behind preorder. Fetish for skins and other costmetics. Not to mention unironically expecting a Ukrainian to spend $135 on a full version, or "mere" $72 for the most basic one. Funny thing, I'd perhaps actually pay that, if the game felt worth it. But it doesn't.

I... Don't like this, nor do I hate it. I like civ because I pick one civ in the game start and I build a strategy around them. I usually went into games with a game plan. Use Victoria's production to build lots of wonders. Use American P-51s and rush for planes and aircraft carriers. Or strategies I've seen online such as using Babylon and going for the Bio-Dome early and then winning culture by building a ton of green anergy.

And every civ having there themes with their historic buildings and units and special abilities that use used all the way through the game. But instead of every civ that had their own unique thing that made them super strong I kind of fear that's a bit lost with this new era system and changing civs. I'll have to see when it fully comes out.

also, the graphics feel like a downgrade. I like the stylization of civ 6 and this somehow feels like we're back to just being on the same level of civilization 5 graphics now.

I'll hold out for my biggest opinions until I see more, but for now this has me skeptical at best.

(it still feels weird agreeing with you on something.)

I agree, I'm not the least bit interested. It's not a $70 game to me at all. I'll wait for a sale or for DLC to be added to improve the game.

I was REALLY looking forward to this and I'm very disappointed.

I don't like they removed builders. I don't like you can pile people into 1 tile. I don't like how they dumbed things down instead of making things complex. And getting less and less historically accurate with each new game. First we have zombies, now we have leaders can lead any civ you want.

And graphics look exactly like civ 6. May as well play civ 6.

What can I say, great minds think alike.

Your message seems very personal, but here's a thing - you don't really interact with me here at Steam forums. You don't get to see any "me" other than an image of myself that was formed as a result of your reading my comments. It is really my opinions you are interacting with. The opinions you agree with might make you feel like I'm an amazing person. This is not true. While our disagreements might make you think I'm your sworn enemy. This is also not true.

I'm not putting blame or holding grudges of any kind. After all, it's rare of a skill for one to be able to view opinions independently from who they belong to.

Cheers!

P.S. Unlike that other game which I feel too sentimental about to just let it go, this one is already off my wishlist.

ehehe, I don't really see you as a "sworn" enemy. Just somebody I disagree with a lot and saw an opportunity to agree with them for once.
