A lot of people have expressed regret at buying the expensive version of the game that was bundled with the upcoming DLC... Gamers, as a species, will never learn.
Yeah the deluxe edition upgrade probably wasn't something I needed.
That price adds up quickly.
And Civ as well as other 4X, city builders end up hurting one's wallet.
We definitely don't learn. Prices will continue to go up as a result. An example is Mario Kart World, if you can't get your hand on a bundle. It's $79.99 USD for the base game.
This game will be great in two years. 100% confident in that.
It's unfortunate that we have to wait two years to enjoy a video game that we purchase today, but this was expected. The exact same thing happened with Civ VI, only that game was a disaster on many levels.
Civilization VII will test the patience of every gamer that purchases it. Unfortunately, patience is an attribute that gamers lack.
I am glad that you are confident in your purchase.
And I agree that they will not stop working on it. So it can eventually be worth. At least I supported the devs by buying it.
Two years is better than the four some games take to improve.
I think I am an exception to the rule as I feel like I have patience.
Civ 7 desperately needs to roll out an official mod manager & encourage people to make decent mods. If they were smart they would have a contest w/ public reward for some of the best mods.
The lack of new commanders is quite telling. If they made one of the coolest Civ 7 features the hardest to mod, they need to change that and come up with a way better system.
Since commanders are the only units that can level via exp, one would think we could have a slew of unique commanders being modded. Like Lich King, Sauron, Merlin etc. All with unique skills and paths. But the only commander modded so far is one to ferry naval vessels over land.
I also think any unit should have a small % chance of becoming a commander but a higher commander training cost. Or they could become a hero if you like. It would have made more sense & would have been way more fun.
Too many battles happen with no commander and thus are just a complete waste of combat xp.
Right now Civ 6 is pulling in 22K players while Civ 7 is half that OR LESS.
Civ 6 has mods for dragons, Nazgul and numerous other fun to play speciality units. Civ 7 has NONE.
The good news is, I spent 3,300 hours on Civ 6 and don't plan on going back any time soon. The river battles in Civ 7 add something special Civ 6 missed. I always saw Civ 6 as incomplete.
If Civ 7 wants any more of my $$$ they need to prove they can launch content that is not grossly under developed and insulting to the player base. They also should have created a Civ classic mode that would have kept the tradition of allowing your Civilization, to stand the test of time. It was a big mistake to go away from that format so completely.
Just my 2 cents.
Narrative events have already taken to this, it's just not for every civilization. Training a Yuthahathi for example can produce such narrative event.
I'm not particular to the fantasy mods myself, but I think everyone can agree that Civ VII could use a lot more of everything lol. And it will get that, in due time. Proper modding scene cannot possibly arrive too soon.
I am super happy for you.
Wow that is a lot of quality feedback. I suppose since the game is still relatively new, many mods haven't been finished yet. But yes I'd like to see support for them.
And yeah I believe the best possible mode to add would be where you can stick with one Civ the whole time.
I guess I will buy the next DLC when it comes out, though. I kinda feel like I might as well at this point.
I regret nothing as I learn from other peoples mistakes. You all were warned long ago..
Thank you for your sacrifice!
It's great to hear that you saved your money. I like to volunteer to help any way I can.
Admittedly, I have trouble with this. Like I am trying so hard not to preorder Silent Hill f on PS5.
Buy it when it is finished. You enable all this BS
Been there, done that pretty much for every game I personally have been interested in for at least 10 years (Stellaris' launch was the first time I remember warning people about pre-orders before the launch). Nobody listens and they won't ever. Nobody tells a real savvy Intenet guy what to do.
Most who pre-order are just fine, thank you very much and are either happy with what they got or they accept responsibility for their impulsiveness. On the opposite side of the coin, others get shocked and dismayed and complain that "nobody saw this coming. I trusted these devs! I trusted SID!!!" They may have learned their lesson with regards to Firaxis but not for other studios. We'll see how Endless Legend 2 turns out*. It's probably going to be the next sure thing for disaffected Civvers and they'll happily give money to a competing studio to 'hurt' Firaxis only to be disappointed for a whole new set of reasons.
The horse has already left the stable and impulsive folks will just do the same again the next time they get 'excited for new product'. We're all kind of vulnerable to this to some extent or another though.
* It seems like the same complaints we see about aCiv 7 (and earlier Civs) emerging about the new EL game, the second in the franchise, not the seventh, have already started appearing:

Yes if anyone is going to try and convince a person they don't need to play day 1. It would be right as they could preorder it.
I am glad that people tried with Stellaris. But sadly you are right. We can try to help others. But they do not want to be helped.
I wasn't happy with Cyberpunk on launch. But at least my computer ran it well and I completed the game more than once. But that's why I don't buy Witcher 4 because of CDPR. You're right though, it didn't stop me from preordering Civ VII.
Good points and hell maybe I will stop preordering. Probably not though.
However. I learned the lesson about buying expensive editions with Skyline Cities 2, now, I will never get over that. Harsh lesson learned.
