Leaving an already highly researched technology?
It's nearing the end of the era, but there will be time to catch up on some lower tech masteries if I wait on finishing the future tech one, which I've progressed to almost completed. But I'm not sure if Ieave it and come back will I continue where I left off, or is it all gone if I leave that tech? Does anyone know?

Thanks

Anyone can answer. :)
I think the invested science is saved.

Yes, what you've invested in Future Tech is retained for when you come back to it. I've found it best, however, to keep up with the lower tech masteries as you go along; many of the science masteries include codexes with add to your science (of course) and make the tech tree easier to pursue. I find Future Tech more of a curse, since it quickens the end of the Age and you always have other stuff you want to complete before the Age ends.

But the future techs/civics give you wild points... still better than achieving a legacy path and get a defined point because it’s not the golden age you want to choose...

This is my own feeling.

Completing a future tech/civ gives a wildcard point that can be spent anywhere and that doesn't cap out

In contrast, the points from legacies are not wild-card and only allow you to spend twice on an attribute point purchase (as in, if you get 3 cultural legacy points, only 2 can be spent on getting a cultural attribute point and the 3rd point has to go to diplo or the remaining other options).

The future tech/civ option is almost always better if pursuing attribute points... legacies are good but the best pay-off of a legacy is to take a %-based bonus or some other boost first, so long as it applies to your strategy for the next era, instead of an attribute point.

All just IMO, but still, I'd take the future tech and a wildcard attribute point over completing a legacy I have no need for in the next age, if it comes to a choice. Doing both is best, but if I have to choose, the wildcard point is better if the legacy option isn't going to be helpful.
Masteries give more immediate benefits like additional infrastructure yields and military boosts. These can have large effect in the current age, far more than anything but the most important "keystone" attributes. If the age is coming to a close and you don't need to wait for it, the wildcard point is better value for next age, but I would never beeline for it at the expense of all tech masteries.

If you're at the point you're unlocking future techs/civics, you probably don’t need a lot of effects/boost for the current age because the current age is almost over, no ? I guess there will some situation where you want to delay a little a future/tech civic for some valid reason, but it should be rare

Agreed. I only meant it for the age closing, which I think was the main question in the original post.

Like the quote says, it pays to get the masteries very early if you can. Their benefit is current-age-only, but tends to be something rather powerful (every farm getting +1 food, etc.).

Only when the age is coming to a close should the masteries start to get ignored unless they unlock something ageless that you absolutely still need and have time to apply.
