I love OPs that put all of the relevant topic information in the OP.
Great news! Many players have been relying on his UI and quality of life mods since Civ 5. Hope they let him loose on Civ 7 UI issues.

Great! The only man on earth can fix Civ7.
VERY GOOD, they are bringing the talent they so obviously lack (in UI).

Im glad they are getting work but damn will I miss his mods. I hope they do not get chewed up by corporate culture.

This is very good news. He has been a star in the modding community! See no down side to this.

It's bizarre this doesn't happen more often, with some companies even going out of their way to screw modders over.

This is good for him, good for the team, and especially good for all of us.
I am not surprised because his mods give you all the raw information you need to make decisions. Something that Firaxis should have learned long ago
Been using his UI Mod on this since day one, good on him.

If the Devs can't fix it, turn to the modders, but, and not to be disrespectful to Sukritact, they must need him, tells you something don't it? ;)

Best news since they released Civ VII six hours early.

They need to get Gedemon too! Civ on small maps is like tic-tac-toe with ornate X's and 0's.
All that time and effort for historical accuracy, language and music and then they include Bermuda Triangle. Ridiculous!

This is taking the whole "let the modders fix it" a little to literally and immediately. Firaxis is throwing the towel without even trying.

Somewhat of a good thing, I suppose, even if it's a little sad that a professional gaming development shop with decades of experience and lots of successful games under their belt suddenly can't do basic UI (or much of anything else for Civ VII except flashy graphics).

I enjoyed many of Sukritact's mods for Civ 6 but it's still ridiculous that a professional shop worked on this game for (9?) years and couldn't come up with a passable UI and needs a modder to rescue them. Pitiful.

What happened to Firaxis? All their talent retired or left and nobody said anything? They offshoring and using contractors for everything? Civ VII is a product of weak design and shoddy execution. The kind of thing you expect from full on corporate cash grab, not from a beloved company like Firaxis.

Very disappointing overall even if they're going for a positive spin on a train wreck.

That is a lot of hyperbole when you should know there is a ton of nuance to the story. Even with me being on the side of disliking the UI and thinking it needed far more work for a professional release there are some opinions I cannot agree with.

That they can't do basic ui: Has many points against it, firstly that while often frustrating and lacking detail, it does function and in many ways better then many contemporary UI's. For example Humanity and ARA's UI's offered less detail on their releases and offered not explanation for concepts causing certain effects. While tech trees having artefacts on the visuals I think was unprofessional and tree lines that could confuse, I think the UI did manage to fit a lot of readable information in their tech trees that are often much harder to read in less professional works. Steam is full of UI's not done by professionals that at least in comparison show that some skill went into Civ 7's UI despite its lacking in aspects.

Throwing in the towel: clearly not true given they have delayed new events to work on UI more. Remember that its a corporation so they can't slap together a mod and call it a day. They have to test it for working on console, different OS's, feedback from testers, bug checking, code rebuilds to accommodate new developments, etc. And UI gets developed last because you do not want to spent a bunch of money on UI design and assets that keep getting thrown out for not fitting the new designs implemented during development.

My point being, while I dislike the step back from civ 6's UI. I do not think hiring Sukritact is an indication of a clown fiesta at their studio. Just people recognising his talent and positive public image.
This is just sad and essentially an admission that this development team is not up to the task of fixing this game. Last Civilization I ever buy unless a new team is in place.
A very good move IMHO and I applaud the developers for making this move. Sukritact has an excellent record for making games better with his wonderful mods. Good news for sure for all Civ 7 owners and players. Move indicates Firaxis is committed to the game and are willing to further invest to make it better.
