This is good for him, good for the team, and especially good for all of us.
If the Devs can't fix it, turn to the modders, but, and not to be disrespectful to Sukritact, they must need him, tells you something don't it? ;)
All that time and effort for historical accuracy, language and music and then they include Bermuda Triangle. Ridiculous!
Somewhat of a good thing, I suppose, even if it's a little sad that a professional gaming development shop with decades of experience and lots of successful games under their belt suddenly can't do basic UI (or much of anything else for Civ VII except flashy graphics).
I enjoyed many of Sukritact's mods for Civ 6 but it's still ridiculous that a professional shop worked on this game for (9?) years and couldn't come up with a passable UI and needs a modder to rescue them. Pitiful.
What happened to Firaxis? All their talent retired or left and nobody said anything? They offshoring and using contractors for everything? Civ VII is a product of weak design and shoddy execution. The kind of thing you expect from full on corporate cash grab, not from a beloved company like Firaxis.
Very disappointing overall even if they're going for a positive spin on a train wreck.
That they can't do basic ui: Has many points against it, firstly that while often frustrating and lacking detail, it does function and in many ways better then many contemporary UI's. For example Humanity and ARA's UI's offered less detail on their releases and offered not explanation for concepts causing certain effects. While tech trees having artefacts on the visuals I think was unprofessional and tree lines that could confuse, I think the UI did manage to fit a lot of readable information in their tech trees that are often much harder to read in less professional works. Steam is full of UI's not done by professionals that at least in comparison show that some skill went into Civ 7's UI despite its lacking in aspects.
Throwing in the towel: clearly not true given they have delayed new events to work on UI more. Remember that its a corporation so they can't slap together a mod and call it a day. They have to test it for working on console, different OS's, feedback from testers, bug checking, code rebuilds to accommodate new developments, etc. And UI gets developed last because you do not want to spent a bunch of money on UI design and assets that keep getting thrown out for not fitting the new designs implemented during development.
My point being, while I dislike the step back from civ 6's UI. I do not think hiring Sukritact is an indication of a clown fiesta at their studio. Just people recognising his talent and positive public image.
