Can the AI Win?
Spoilers below if you havent finished a full game

I have now won the game in every way except cultural up to the immortal difficulty. While the game is fun I am curious if its actually possible to lose (with the exception of being conquered)? I feel like the AI puts up a strong fight in the first age, is hit or miss in the second but by the final age things get weird.

I just finished a game where one AI was producing 2300 culture per turn (idk how thats even possible) but they got stuck at 11 relics and never moved passed that. I ended up leading in economics, military and science by the end. While the AI Is capable of pumping out massive yields they dont seem like they are capable of finishing the "quests" or tasks at hand to actually achieve a victory. I am assuming the only way they win is if no one triggers a win condition and they win by leading in legacy paths?

To me it seems the game is meant to have another age or two and the AI is programmed to max out yields and doesnt seem to care about actually completing a win condition. With maybe the exception of Science because at the end of the day a science victory is essentially just producing things until you win.

as a total side note, ive never tried for a cultural victory but is it even possible? I notice towards the endish of the age there are no more relics to dig up from explorers. Am i missing something about relics?

To gain a culture victory:

research natural history

buy/build museums and explorers

beeline hegemony

build the world’s fair

I find it to be the easiest of the victory paths because if you have good culture/economy then you will beat most civs to the relics. Having a city with a museum/university on each continent is also key.

I did just play a game where Catherine kicked my butt in the Exploration Era in regards to culture/wonder spam but she did stumble towards the end even though her culture was really good still. This was on Immortal.

So, no, I have never seen the AI win or come really close yet with a non-military winning condition. I also get the feeling that we will get another Era someday and that a lot of these bare bones mechanics will get fleshed out.

I strongly agree that we will get another era and these issues will be resolved. Yeah while the AI puts up a solid fight during the game, by the end they are never close to victory. Thanks for the tips on culture.

Overall game is great and the changes made to combat make civ 6 feel ancient but i wish the AI ended as strong as it starts

Agree, Culture is currently a little bit broken. The devs recognised it and it will be improved next patch.

I've had Confucius progress 3/3 on science victory, but I began kicking his butt to stall him, I'm not too certain how things would have worked out.

This is actually rather impressive, I suppose that means the AI is programmed to bank enough money and influence both. I've had several AIs began production of factory resources in timely manner, but never given them opportunity to complete the victory projects.
Hmm, I've lost three games without much effort so, yes, the AI can win LOL

funny you mention that because in my last game there was one AI not involved in any war who was second place to me in economics. by the time I reached 500 points she was barely at 150. There was no drive by her to actually complete the task at hand. Maybe its game specific.

Can I ask how the AI won and how far behind you were and also the difficulty level?
