Auto Save Warning!!!
If you start a new campaign it will immediately delete your auto saves from a previous campaign.

I just lost 7 hours of progress where I was in the third age because I loaded up a new campaign to see if DX12 would work since it kept crashing when loading a save.

Civ 6 works the same way.
The auto saves from the game are moved to a subfolder called
prev
You can manually recover them from there.
Again, same goes for Civ 6.

I have hundreds of auto saves across multiple campaigns in Civ VI so I would agree that this shouldn't happen.

The auto save setting where you set how many auto saves you want also specifically says it is that many per game. Not total auto saves.

Get this out of the way: yeah that sounds like a problem!

But I wanted to ask: do people actually rely on auto saves long term? Maybe I’m an old fuddy duddy, but I always drop a manual save when I stop a play session. This is useful info if I ever make a game with autosave.

OMG, thank you so much! Civ VII looks to work the same way and I found my save in the prev folder!

Why not manually safe when you leave the game? That way you won't lose it. It's what I do bever failed me.

Because I have played Civ VI for years and never needed to.
You should never count on autosaves when exiting any piece of software. Always manually save your work.
