It has many problems, this isn't one of them. There's also plenty of threads on it already.

You may think it isn't a problem, but thousands of other people disagree with you. It definitely is a problem and the biggest one, because as a diehard CIV fan, I probably would have bought this one despite the negative reviews, because CIV 6 had tons a reviews saying 5 was better and I still bought and enjoyed it for over 1600 hours, but I will not even be giving this one a chance. Screw spyware programs. This game is on my ignore list.

People should avoid games with Denuvo.

There's nothing wrong with it, it stops hackers and cheats.. it doesn't steal any data.. steam steals more than denuvo does.. or discord.. that's even worse, they sell that data.. to anyone. So as far as systems go, it's ok, it does cause some lag tho, whilst it's checking stuff and that lag can be a real issue, esp for multiplayer.

I don't use discord either. Anything that makes the system less secure or negatively impacts performance is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. I'd expect that from a free2play product because our data is the product, not the game. I will not accept that from a paid product such as a full price game. CIV publishers can go play in traffic. I'll go play something else and MAYBE I'll even pirate it if it ever gets cracked just out of contempt.

Why does it matter if someone wants to cheat in a single player game?

What do you even mean, it isn't one of them. Illogical thinking and an illogical argument, it has been proven that denuvo brings an hefty impact on performance. So in what way is it not a problem? Steam is already a DRM, so it makes little sense why the company implements it here or at all. Piracy isn't that big and those who do, wouldnt buy the game anyhow!
