Some civilizations are unlocked automatically based on your choices.
For example: Isabella automatically unlocks Spain
Also, civ choices auto-unlock other civs.
For example: Rome unlocks the Normans and Spain; Spain unlocks Mexico, etc.
The unlocks above are automatic. YOu pick the right leader or historically relevant civ, you will get the unlock.
The remainder are unlocks you get for achieving things in the game.
3 towns near mountains - Inca
3 (or 4) tea in your trade network - Ming
Trade silk (probably 3 or 4, I never remember the number)- Mongolia
There are a bunch that unlock via having resources in your empire this way.
Have 3 coastal cities - Chola
Why is it that the more I learn about this Civ the more I dislike it?
ffs, If I unlock the Normans, I should have access to them in any cive that can branch into them from that point forward. It's ridiculous that I have to plan out crap like building a certain amount of walls or markets to *qualify* to pick a certain civ,
Do I feel like I need a mod to unlock everything. No. It's part of the strategy. If you really want to play that civ, play the leader that has it unlocked lol.
I think Mongolian unlock is to have 3 siege units in Antiquity
This is wrong.
