Upon release, aside from the hexes, it didn't remind me of Civ VI at all. The gameplay mechanics were completely different, and a bit strange.
I liked the art style.
As far as being a copycat of Civilization VII goes, that's a big no from me. Not even close.
Not many people have played Old World. It wasn't a popular game.
There are about 800 people playing Old World today, while 67,000 people are still playing Civ VI.
There is a reason for that.
50 hours is nothing for to experience a good 4x game. Anyway, I read enough of your posts, to know what kind of "gamer" you are.
This case you should know, it was released on epic games store exclusively for one year.
It's ok - for a 4x game.
I agree - based on the information we have currently. Humankind is the game to refer to, for to find similarities, when it comes to (new?) game mechanics.
Interesting, you know of something similar to steamcharts on epic games store anybody else is aware of? So from where do you get reliable numbers? Again, Old World was exclusive for epic games store for more than one year. So most 4x gamers, what didn't want to wait one year, did buy it and play it on epic games store. And the developers of Old World repeatedly wrote, they are very happy about their sales numbers.
In short: to compare Old World with Civ on steam charts is pointless, given the facts. You should know that, not?
Also the developers from Mohawk Games didn't have the opportunity to develop a fanbase over close to 34 years, now, given Old World is a new game. By the way, did you know parts of the team of Old World once worked on Civlilization III and IV? Source: https://mohawkgames.com/team/
And to clarify something, Old World only has one "Age". It strictly sticks to the Classical Antiquity Age. Think Akkadian Babylonia and Egyptian Old Kingdom, through to the collapse of the Western Roman Empire.
they clearly took inspiration from humankind
Yes, they're confused. Civ V: Brave New World is still the gold standard of the franchise.
Looks more like Humankind TBH.
