The Devs hide nothing. They show everything prior to release. They also get a lot free keys to content Creaters to make videos about it. You had plenty options to inform yourself, how Civ will evolve.
And finally, no one take something from you. If you dont like the game. Fine. You still can play the older civ variants. No need to be angry about devs evolving the game.
Anyway...
If you did the tutorials, you would have learned that you won't lose units that can be placed in an army commander + a few more single units. so if you had like 4-5 army commanders, none of your units would have disappeared.
The techs that you didnt manage to research are gone, not researched. And you cannot build the building that were in that tech either. But you will overbuild those buildings anyway in the next era, so you dont lose much.
But i agree the game is trash. They made this game with this catch up mechanic like civ is a competitive game like dota or something. We''ll have world championships of civ or something.
The whole sandbox of civ was thrown out the window.
Just put it aside until improvements are patched in. I hated Civ 5 for it's blandness when it was released but ended up logging over 2000 hours and became one of my favourite games. Not sure if that will happen here as I see an industry-wide creep into the quality of games over the last few years. Gamers now like to be directed and love cutscenes. That means open-world sandbox type games where decisions are on you are dying.
Sadly you never realised how good this all is. So now you aren't here anymore. So sad.
It takes several hours to start realizing how bad these era impacts were. The fact of the matter they stated they changed up the era and it expands upon it. What they didn't explain is how it impacted the entire gameplay. They didn't explain there is no sandbox mode anymore. It is now all "quests" and paths to follow. This IS NOT the spirit of civilization.
The spirit of civilization is to build a civilization to "withstand the test of time." That's ALWAYS been the spirit. This farce of an iteration is as far from it as east is to west.
Stop defending the lies the developers spewed.
Developers have been doing this for a few years now to curtail the return system.
It is deplorable and I've contacted steam, I suggest anyone else tired of these blatant tactics do the same.
