I would refund this garbage in a heartbeat but it takes 2 hours just to see.
This is the worst game I have bought in a long long time and sorry to say it is my favorite franchise that did it to me. Civ is dead now, no reason at all to play it over any of the new ones Mellenia Ara HumanKind or even Civ6. My whole army and strategy evaporated at the first era change, I don't even know if I got the missing techs because a new tech tree as well. Zero continuity between eras, you dont even keep your Civ, your armies, your leaders, all gone. I hope it is a glitch so I can get a refund.

What you should lesrned from it? Inform yourself about a game before buying it. And stop blaming the game/others for your mistakes.

The Devs hide nothing. They show everything prior to release. They also get a lot free keys to content Creaters to make videos about it. You had plenty options to inform yourself, how Civ will evolve.

And finally, no one take something from you. If you dont like the game. Fine. You still can play the older civ variants. No need to be angry about devs evolving the game.

If you did the tutorials, you would have learned that you won't lose units that can be placed in an army commander + a few more single units. so if you had like 4-5 army commanders, none of your units would have disappeared.

The techs that you didnt manage to research are gone, not researched. And you cannot build the building that were in that tech either. But you will overbuild those buildings anyway in the next era, so you dont lose much.

But i agree the game is trash. They made this game with this catch up mechanic like civ is a competitive game like dota or something. We''ll have world championships of civ or something.

The whole sandbox of civ was thrown out the window.

There are very few games you can make a refund decision with in under 2 hours. Even while you learn the interface you are unlikely to get past intro scenes, tutorials, character generators and general game mechanics. This is why reviews of refunded games don't count for the overall rating.
Just put it aside until improvements are patched in. I hated Civ 5 for it's blandness when it was released but ended up logging over 2000 hours and became one of my favourite games. Not sure if that will happen here as I see an industry-wide creep into the quality of games over the last few years. Gamers now like to be directed and love cutscenes. That means open-world sandbox type games where decisions are on you are dying.

You keep your cities and towns. If you played well, you get a heap of points to put into the new world.. and you get some brand new armies and a brand new cog. Plus you've laid down the basic factory war machine you need to keep going. When that age ends, you do the same for the next.

Sadly you never realised how good this all is. So now you aren't here anymore. So sad.

seems not a glitch and all your units replaced with new units and i think they all reset at your capital which is annoying tbh if you in middle of a war. basically if you at war and near end of era you might want to go for peace instead . kinda disrupt how you wanna play . if they stay at same position that really would be ok . i think its also reset all countries

Wrong, absolutely wrong to blame the consumers only. The fact of the matter is the developers FLAT OUT LIED about how earth-shattering the changes were. They alluded that it's still civilization but this farce of a civ VII is absolutely nothing like any of the previous iteration of civilization.

It takes several hours to start realizing how bad these era impacts were. The fact of the matter they stated they changed up the era and it expands upon it. What they didn't explain is how it impacted the entire gameplay. They didn't explain there is no sandbox mode anymore. It is now all "quests" and paths to follow. This IS NOT the spirit of civilization.

The spirit of civilization is to build a civilization to "withstand the test of time." That's ALWAYS been the spirit. This farce of an iteration is as far from it as east is to west.

Stop defending the lies the developers spewed.
I just searched for games breaching the 2 hour mark and this thread was the first. With games pushing intros and stories for 1+hours and then about 30 minutes to actually play the game after learning it. Had to get a ticket to return CP2077 as I had about 20 minutes to interact in the game before I realised it was unhot garbage.
Developers have been doing this for a few years now to curtail the return system.
It is deplorable and I've contacted steam, I suggest anyone else tired of these blatant tactics do the same.

The Steam refund policy is not supposed to be a satisfaction guarantee. It's there to give you a safety net in case you encounter technical issues, or a game doesn't work as advertised. That's why you only get a two-hour window, because problems like that should be immediately obvious.

Oh I know that is why I didn't ask for one. burned is burned though and I'm feeling it so that is on Civ 7 firaxis and 2k no one else. I didn't want to be colored by others opinions of the game or spoilers so I wanted to play it and support the company for myself since I have been with them since civ 1. So it is on me and me is feeling quite the burn now.
Steam needs to increase the hours limit. 2 is a joke.

I encourage everyone dissatisfied with their unfinished product and scummy. Sales tactics to leave a negative review. It's the only thing that will save this game. Because if sales keep dropping, they will be forced to make changes. If people just buy it and say oh well. I got scammed. Nothing changes.

Make it a percentage of advertised expected game time. 10%
