Army Commanders Need Fixing
Whats up with the army commanders? You can join into armies but you cant even do a simple move and attack on an enemy unit

A city? A unit moving/embarking on water? etc. Your army will not attack it. There wont be the option for melee units to engage them or for archers to range attack target on water. Wth?! I can do this once I separate the squads from the commander but cannot use the attack targetting. Great. Lets spend an extra turn after squads are dispatched from army if they want to attack an enemy

DEVs please fix so their able to attack anything. Why even form an army if you cant target anything but units ON land for land commander and naval units for naval commander?

I am very confused about the commanders, is the only use to move as a group?

Commanders have a promotions tree and they also have group attack commands. One of the promotions also lets you attack after you unpack your army.

You should be able to use the ranged group attack on water targets but who knows.

Commanders seem to be for moving and buffing units mainly

So how do you attack a hostile unit? Have to un-stack? Does that mean you can only fight one unit vs one unit? Seems really silly for a game like this in 2025.

Would make a lot of sense if you could just attack with the commander and his army. WTF is up with that? Like to know the devs answers for their choice on combat here. In ARA you had leaders with armies of units that fought together. This feels like a step backwards in Civ7.

yea you have to unstack but the commander has the ability to command all units to attack same target next turn

Commander has a full unpack and pack button. See a unit? Hit the button unpack, kill, then hit the pack button and continue marching forth. If your commander has the units can move after deploying perk, you can do it all in a single turn. It's just you need movement left to repack into the commander so you just do it at the start of the next turn.

There is nothing to fix. They are not supposed to be used as "doom stacks". Learn how to use them properly and stop thinking about it the wrong way.

ok, well if you can do all that in one turn. So if you have more than one unit with leader, do they all unpacked in the same hex? Sounds like no?
The idea of a 'doom' stack doesn't even apply. You can limit how much the commander can move. So it would make sense a better commander could lead more units. Which doesn't seem like an exploit.

Which is realistic. The hexes represent many miles. The range of a bow is a couple hundred feet. Also If there is no doom stacks that is great. Finally a little strategy.

I agree. Commanders are glorified buses that are only useful for long-range uninterrupted transport. Would have been much more interesting gameplay-wise if they were turning into super-units with all the power and abilities of the units under their command.

Also, when you unpacked from a commander that has not moved the unpacked unit has no movement so you can't even attack that turn. That's crazy. So you can never catch a unit moving even though your commander packed has 3 movement. So you're back to better off moving the military unit and the commander separate so that you can have a chance to fight a hostile unit in the area. Maybe some people like this mechanic, but I don't have to like it and so far I don't. Maybe with more play it will won't seem as bad. Suppose if the AI was chasing me with a packed commander, I know he could never catch me.
