Sid Meier's Civilization VII

My Civ7 experience
As a person with over 2k hours in the civ series, i would say this game is incomplete. The story telling narrative is interesting but the game makes a hard nerf to rapid expansion. Plan to update review later.

Finished a campaign so here goes:

Lets talk about the map. You get to pick a spot to make a city which somehow puts you at the top or bottom of map. Not great but whatever. At the start you can only have 2 of 3 cities before you go over cap. Now im used to playing on deity and the key to winning is getting as many cities as you can while not upsetting the AI. Get to close to their capital? They war with you. Get to close to their cites? They hate you. MAKE too many cities and YOUR people hate you. Want to do a domination game? Rushing is out of the question you wont even keep the cities as they revolt and pillage the tiles in the city and have to spend time repairing them.

Lets talk about the "economic" side of things. Merchants work in reverse in civ 7. Rather than sending them on their way to whatever city you are not at work with. You first need to spend political points to get trade relations. These are expensive to do and so you have to build many cities to get the points to do this. This also puts you behind on everything else. You can also only trade with people in range and ONLY if they like you.

Lets talk about wonders. They suck now and are heavily nerfed. Unless your aiming for a golden age in which you have to build 7 of them, they are not a huge priority now. The computer favors these over most other things unless they are building an army to destroy you. Wonders are nice buildings but not nearly as useful as in other games.

Act 2 of this farce and you have new objectives by exploring things and religion. Religion in civ 6 was a struggle to win people over to you religion. Larger cities being more difficult the long time goes on. In Civ7? One turn turns the entire city or 2 if you were not the first there. It can be 1 population or 60. Faith is a joke in this game. Just something to do for a "golden age". You can also settle cites on far far continents and send treasure ships. Likely already at city cap so this is kinda meh. Can also kill people and capture cities, that is a solid plan here too.

Act 3 gets confusing. Make factories and slot goods and attempt to win that way very slowly and needs many cities. Population cap goes up but by now land taken. Pick up relics out of the ground and get more than the CPU. But wait! you have to research where these are and the game doesn't tell you if the spot is claimed and that icon will stay there. Only good thing about explorers is they cant die. Bad news about explorers is that they cant die. Want to make railroad networks like in the other games? Nope, not like before. Have to make a railway building in each city to connect them. This makes moving army's a pain. Takes half an age to get them across maps. Killing them all becomes hard as taking a city goes against the cap so generally if you don't want the city you burn it to the ground. Razing cities takes 1 turn per population and counts as a city you own while it burns.

No support units at all. WTF?! No medics, drones, builders, engineers...anything. Devs couldn't fix the AI with support units in civ6 so they just wrote them out of the game.

Attacking cities is easier than it used to be. in other civ games as long as you have an intact wall you get an attack from the city while defending. Not here. In fact you have to march around the city crushing everything in order to control the city. Combat units other than generals do not get promotions. That clutch 50% heal on promotion is gone. Then the game transitions over to a new age and poof! Most of the soldiers are gone.

I really feel betrayed by the development of this game. They promised much and managed to turn one of my favorite series into complete utter trash. Do not buy this game - not even on sale. Not even cyberpunk launched as bad as this. Scouts walking around as floating heads. rivers appearing over trade boats. Pathing errors where a tank goes completely vertical in a ditch or road. Ships glitch out when range attacking everything and the icon blacks out. This game should be in early access not gold status.

Do not buy this game. Whoever designed this game to be the way that it is needs to be fired and whoever gave the devs the idea to make the game this way needs to eat urinal cakes for the rest of their life. Bad enough the civ devs "borrowed" code from the game humankind but to mess up Civ 7 trying to copy that bad idea? Unforgivable.

Too late.

You should have been here earlier.

You could have convinced 100,000 people not to purchase it.

Unfortunately, as it stands now, you're going to have to accept the fact that Civilization VII will be a permanent fixture in the top 20 for the next nine years.

That's gotta hurt.

Next time show up earlier. Not two days before launch.

Unfortunately, quite alot of people just see ""oo new Civ game? Buy". Do not bother checking out the details, if their 10 year old computer can even run it, etc etc. same reason 1.5 million purchased Dragon Age Veilguard. They see the brand and stop thinking.
with any luck they will or the devs fix it
It was made for VR. Fact.
