Yeah sucks to be him.
https://www.counterpointresearch.com/insight/global-xr-ar-vr-headsets-market-share-quarterly
The actual distance is probably closer to 2 inches not Centimeters.
Your eyes don't rest right up against the lenses. And neither do the screens.
This might blow your mind but VR headsets create an artificial focal distance of about 1.4 metres from your eyes. So someone who needs glasses just for reading doesn't need glasses for VR.
You're basically looking at a statistic of people who bought a quest 2 for Beatsaber for Christmas. Then never picked the damn thing up again once the novelty of Beatsaber wore off.
The market they should be shooting for, are the the ones who bought VR for things like RE4 and RE8, MSFS, UEVR.........Not beatsaber. If you want to make a Civilization game for the Mobile Phone Gamer...so be it. But I think Civilization and Mobile gaming don't mix.
VR Only gaming, being on the same level as your average Mobile Phone game, is why VR Retention sucks.
I rarely buy VR Only. And of those I do own. I rarely play them.
But most every Full Fledged Flat game that got some kind of VR support, all the way down to Metroid Prime via Dolphin VR. I Complete them. They don't end up on a backlog. Mostly because these games were built to compete for my attention instead of hiding their lack of content behind a hand waving gimmick.
And you want to make a game exclusive to that hand waving gimmick? Please.
I think his concern is more related to radiation levels, etc.
I've had 6 different VR headsets. And Meta was the one keeping the VR market going.
Zuck wasted billions to do this. His loss, our gain.
The PSVR2 isn't even in the conversation it uses old fashioned Fresnel lenses.
The affordable Quest 3 and all the expense ultra high end headsets use Pancake lenses without the distortion of Fresnel. Pancake gives edge to edge clarity.
I streamed multiple PCVR games wirelessly with a WI-FI6E router to my Quest 3 for almost two years.
It's a great affordable device for PC gaming. You don't like Facebook. So what, they dominate the market and literally kept it alive for years. Also they make a good product for people who can't afford a MeganeX or Bigscreen Beyond headset.
No amount of your experience setting up your wifi router for your quest is going to change that Quest isn't doing crap to hold VR up. UEVR and Luke Ross is.
Whatever you might think Quest is doing to keep it alive is as fake as the DEI push the last 4 years.
IF you going digging out there on the internet. You might even come across an article spelling it out as much, that PSVR 2 is actually showing the greatest "Investment" from the gamers. Instead of.... a christmas present that collects dust.
I know a few people who bought a quest 2.... I wonder if they are included in that market share.
You know how much they used that Quest 2 over the last 4 years? Zero.
That's at least 2 I know of. IF you count me that would make it 3. Although I actually did put some use into it during the first 2 years before I got the PSVR2.
Why? Because they prefer to play with a familiar gamepad and being lazy instead of motion controls.
That's what's parents said back in the 1950's.
But it sure would look pretty.
I might buy it when I can have Military Victory instead of the game just ending.
