Eras are WAY too fast
My biggest problem with Civ is ALWAYS that I feel like I'm only just getting started in a time period before whoopsie it's over. That is worse than EVER with the fact that I get soft frickin' reset when that happens now!

And it happens FAR too early. I'm a marathon massive map player. Hell, my favorite game mode is hotseat (mad that's gone too) where I play against MYSELF 24 times with no AI because the AI is just too dumb. So the fact that I am even capable of finishing a game in a single sitting is kinda awful for me.

I am finding myself getting kicked off the Normans before I even finished half their tech tree. And that's with Eras progressing as slow as possible! I don't get to enjoy the medieval era at all. I haven't even had any WARS yet!

This badly needs a fix.

Settings were Online Speed, Tiny Map, Slowest Era speed. I don't know if that combo had anything to do with it.
Online speeds makes everyhing cost less of the relevant resource by I think half. This means you have much less time to move units around on the map compared to normal speeds.
My first game, I had it set to marathon and i didn't get 1/3rd the way through the tech tree before the first era swap. Changed to Epic and found the era progress option in the advanced settings, that was better. Third game, went with standard and long era timing, this seems to work well.

Just finished my first game

Had just built my first factory

Just started researching Democracy

It was 1862

And I CAN'T EVEN KEEP GOING? IT HARD-BOOTED ME TO THE MAIN MENU?

♥♥♥♥ this, I'm going back to Humankind.

Problem with standard/quick/online is tech advances faster than armies. That's been true of all Civ games. I heard the sweep spot was playing on Epic. Not completely balanced, but definitely not broken like Marathon is atm.

I stop playing when an era change happens.
Agreed, Someone declared war on me. I fight and defeat them. And instantly get shoved into next age! What the hell? I'm not getting to finish an age because i'm winning? Is this some kind of mobile game ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥?! Also why does the keyboard do almost nothing in a PC game? They messed keyboard and mouse in a PC game! HOW?!?

Agreed. The game moves WAY too fast. If you're playing this tyoe of game, you're probably the type who likes to tuck into an epically long campaign. Hoping for a major update with a sandbox option.
If you go to advanced settings when setting up your game, you can change the era length to long. Helps a good bit.
Are you using Game Speed 'Marathon' and Age Length 'long'?

Isn't there an option that increases era length irrespective of game speed? I could swear there is one.

In the "Advanced Options" menu when you set up a new game, there is a box named "Era Length" which is set at standard by default. There is an arrow to the right which makes the ages long and an arrow to the left which makes the ages short.

So, I wonder why that's not being used by the OP.

civ has to now run on switch, none of what you want is compatible with such a low end platform. sorry.
Yeah. If you are a marathon-style player, prepare to be disappointed. Me? I'm a go-for-the-throat player (Culture is my main) and like to take the wheel on when the Age ends by winning it quickly and decisively. I want my opponent to go,"WTF, how!?"

I think some of you are playing this game wrong. If you are focusing on the things that don't carry over to the next Age and not the Legacies, you will have a bad time. I want to waste your time with a war while stealthing a culture win, ending the Age and making your rage ^_^
