Same here !! Lots of stuff like this...

Me too. So far after 8 added to various cities it only went up once.
Same! Completely nerfed my second age. :(

edit: It might be that you have to completely fill a hex with specialists to get it to count. If you have 3 capacity per tile, you might have to fill all 3?

if you check the objective under the age progress -> legacy paths it does add the information that the specialists need to be in an urban (i think it was urban, not rural) tile outside of the city center. something like that. but i do find it very difficult to see which one is which.

You have to put them in Urban DISTRICTS, which means the hex has to have 2 Buildings in it. An urban hex with only 1 building is not a district.

My problem now is how to see which hexes I've previously placed specialists so I can go build a 2nd building in them. From what I've figured out you can only see your Specialists when increasing your population?

they need to fix this asap but one thing you can do before they add an indicator is just turn on yields and math it out, specialists add a bunch of yields so they will be obviously larger numbers.

Whoops, my bad. An urban district only has 1 building on it. Once it has 2 it becomes a Quarter.

i think it's 4 specialists in one city, but only 1 specialist per urban tile in that city. later, you need to have stacked specialists and tiles with 40+ combined income (3 stacked specialists usually can get that late in the age if you watch your adjacencies)

I think you may be right about it being in one city. But it's def not about how many buildings are on the hex. I just added a specialist to a hex with 2 buildings and my count went from 2/4 to 3/4.

I'm adding them in my capital.

If you are talking about the milestones, I can confirm that it works as intended, so does specialist placement.

If this is another quest, it might very well be bugged, havn't had it yet.

Since it did not work in my case as well, I did some experimenting. In my case only specialists in my capital city were recognised and counted for the milestone. Thanks you chrome for the hint.

The "trick" to adding specialists properly to complete the milestones is to mouse-over each of the urban areas and you will see how much total yield each area has. Only add specialists to an area if the yield is already more than 25. Bee-line the "Education" tech, as prompted in the game -- this increases the specialist limit by 1 (to 2 specialists on each urban tile). Also, bee-line the "Urban Planning" tech; it is the last tech -- the one on the bottom before "Future Tech" -- completing this tech again increases the specialist limit in each city by 1 (to 3 specialists on each urban tile). Some Wonders also increase the specialist limit -- the Majapahit, for example. Some social policies reduce the amount of happiness and food is required to support specialists.

Common sense will allow you to conclude that in order to grow your city and get specialists you should have lots of food in the city, so you can therefore gain population and grow your city more often.

I have had good success with adding specialists in some cities by building Medieval Bridges -- sometimes gaining 25 or more gold on that one tile. Then putting two specialists there will put you over the goal of 40 yield.

While the tips are useful for the Exploration Age Milestone - this is NOT about the milestone to reach yield per tile. It is about a separate minor quest - which only requires you to have a number of specialists.
