I think the idea of making them less impactful was to gaurd against having a strategy that hinged on having a specific wonder - but I do think they need some other mechanic or adjacency bonus to give them more 'umph'
There are neat events on some of them. Like the Colosseum being repurposed in Exploration for a tile bonus
I am interested in the historical content. It makes a difference to me whether it is a great human construction work or a small building of some civilization. For my taste, they have been inspired a little too much by Humankind. And that is sad for the market leader CIV.
I do not think they were "inspired" by Humankind. The design phase pretty much ongoing when humankind came out. I think they made the right alteration based on humankinds failure if you ask me (espicall the chaning civ machanics work way better imho)
the ones i like the most are:
Angkor Wat, it really helps with specialists gameplay
Colossus, it basically the replacement of a free trade route
i think that the biggest reason why i am not to happy with wonders is because in this game you do more with your tiles, so them taking up a whole tile is a much bigger deal. the payoff is often not worth the tile it costs to place it down.
It shows a movie just like Civ 6. You don't see them in MP games though, if that's all you've been playing?
Bingo
I almost think we should be able to build these further away from currently developed borders. In Civ 6 it wasnt as big of a deal because we could always buy tiles
