Modern Age: can't build besides in my capital
Hello all.
As expected, I'm struggling to catch up with so many new features in the game after spent more than 2k hours playing Civ VI, meaning I'm conditioned to play in another way.

Anyway, at the modern age all my cities but my capital can't build anything, both builds or units. I can only purchase builds and units. Is it supposed to be like this, or am I missing something?

Pretty sure every time the game resets to a new era all your cities except the capital revert to towns. Its just another way in which the game does its best to break any sense of continuity from one age to the next.
Mistery solved: one have to turn a town to a city to be allowed to build/recruit there. It costs 1000 coins to do so.

Thanks for this. My exact question.
The bigger town, the less gold it does cost… so let the town crow somewhat before turning it to city!

This was wildly irritating and made no sense when it first happened. At a stretch I can accept it when moving from Ancient due to the idea of experiencing some kind of Bronze Age collapse of everyone, but Exploration? It's just monotonous and unfun.
Try to go for the economic golden age legacy. You can then opt to let the cities remain cities in the next era.
Completing economic path allows you to choose a legacy at the start of an age, that enables you to keep your cities.

You're welcome.
