Problem with starting the game
Hi,

I bought the Deluxe version. I have all the drivers and Windows updates installed. The computer meets the requirements of the game. After selecting play, then selecting the DirectX version, the game does not start. After a few seconds, the start button becomes active again.

What could be causing the problem?

Try Vulkan .
Known issue. It's happening to multiple people. Speculation at the moment is that your CPU needs to support the AVX2 instruction set, which many older CPUs don't, but we have yet to receive a definitive answer from Firaxis/2K.

I cannot start the game either after purchasing it through Steam on Mac
It is not possible to download the game. It's incredible after paying 115 dollars to play....
attempted to run the game with the Intel SDE emulator to make up for lack of AVX2 support, but it still crashes on launch with the same Exception code: 0xc000001d.

So maybe nothing to do with AVX2?

I don't think it is. There's been loads of posts from people with AVX2 capable processors with the same issue.

Daniel.
I've got an FX-8350, my machine is over a decade old. I ran to the store and picked up a Ryzen 9900x. Granted this means I'm changing the mobo and RAM too, it's probably a good benchmark because the software will be the same. Will keep you posted

Run in administrator mode, solved it for me.
If you just right click on the game folder, find the .exe command, right click, and chose run as administrator... it works.
You can also click on the shortcut on your desktop, right click and run as administrator from there as well.

Doesn't work for me.

It's alive! I'm not sure if it's for sure AVX2, but changing mobo and CPU did the trick.

I'm strongly leaning in that direction myself. My CPU is even older, probably closer to 14 years old, so my entire system is long overdue for an upgrade anyway. :yorgle:
Yeah I'm thinking it's time for an upgrade. Course it'd be good if the devs just confirmed if that's the issue or not.

Daniel.

Running in Vulkan mode, as administrator, doesn't help.

Mountain Man, my i7 is indeed older generation. Now I'm wondering if there's a chance for a patch or should I return the game while I can.

Only Firaxis can answer that question.

Anyway, I went ahead and splurged on a new system with a Ryzen 7 9700X, and now the game works. Surprisingly, Microcenter's in-house pre-builds are only about $100 more than it would have cost to buy the components individually and build it myself.
