Does Civ 7 run on Intel Macs natively (no bootcamp)?
Hi all,

Sorry I don't really know too much about computer specs (despite having played on computers for decades), but I feel like it would clear things up for me: Will I be able to run Civ 7 on my Intel Mac? I have currently downloaded it (I have Founders Edition), but it won't run.

I've heard people mention "if they don't explicitly mention that it can run on Intel Macs, then it won't" - is that standard procedure? I feel like 90% of the people indicating they can't play on Mac are in the same boat as I am, and it's likely because it's an Intel issue. And yes, I can read the "M1 minimum spec", but I don't think I fully understand what that means... If M1 and Intel are different processors, is one necessarily "better/less than min spec" than the other? I haven't heard anyone from Firaxis say "This game won't run on Intel Macs", but maybe that's implied (and I just don't get the implication).

1. Is it an Intel issue?
2. Will Firaxis likely support Intel (or is this phase of gaming for me long gone, and I should just ask for my refund now)? Context: I still play games like League of Legends on my computer, so I figured, I'd be able to play Civ as well.

Thanks for the time and help, everyone.

Edit: The current issue for Mac Intel users is you can click "Play", the game tries to load, and then it closes without launching.

I haven't tested it but based on the minimum requirement it will not run on an Intel Mac. The M1 that it requires is the first Apple Silicon processor that they've moved to from Intel.
This game won't run on Intel Macs, hence the specs only including M1 and up.

Thanks for the feedback @Pizza Hutte and @Xevo Bolas. Looks like I'll have to get myself a refund. Really disappointing.

I can vouch for bootcamp on mac -- it works! (On my 2019 MacBook Pro with an Intel i9 chip). I could not get it to work in Windows Parallels; as best I could discern, Steam would not play nice with the virtualized memory. So I tried installing Windows 10 Pro on bootcamp, which runs Windows natively. At first, I was dismayed because it was still crashing immediately at launch, but I saw a thread with someone's recommendation to download the latest Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable Version...five minutes later -- SUCCESS! :D
