Lost the ability to trade in Exploration Era

I am playing as Confucius with the Ming Civilization in the Exploration Era, and I cannot make merchants or any other trade units, there are not showing up in the build menu. I had merchants in the Antiquity Era but now I can't trade. Other civs are able to trade with me and I can see their units. Is anyone else having the same problem?

Found the issue, I needed to research Economics civic because the Ming have a unique merchant

FWIW, all civs have to research new traders for some reason.
