Unable to start game?
I have downloaded, verified files, signed out and back in, and still cannot start the game. Any other tips to get this game to actually work?

I asked about the AVX2 topic in my ticket at 8am.
Unfortunately no answer yet!

It seems to be due to the console-PC-Mac multiplatform programming.
The programming tools used for this probably need ATX2!

@mestre113:
The i7-4710HQ should have ATX2, right?
That was probably the outdated driver!

But if you haven't tried it yet, you should update the driver.
Restarting your computer and Steam is always a good idea too.

I'm sorry I'm not skilled enough in informatics to answer you
But I confirm that after the driver update I can now play the game
Leaving this here in case anyone is having the same issue as me, where you click play, and it doesn't launch, then brings the play button back to green. Going into the game files folder (Base>Binaries>Win64) and changing DX12 final release to run as Admin worked for me. The same should probably work for the vulkan option.

I tried that earlier without success sadly. Good it worked for you.

Daniel.

excuse my ignorance but i'd like to try this...how do you run it as an admin?

any news on a fix?
It's typically not a good idea to run software as admin unless you're actually doing admin stuff.

They haven't even acknowledged the issue...

I can only hope that means they've nearly fixed it. (as opposed to not having a clue, or it just won't for us ever)

Same problem here. Paid extra to play 5 days early and it doesn't launch.

so I have some bad news for some of you, Civ 7 requires your CPU processors to support AVX2 (Advanced Vector Extensions 2), which is an extension of the AVX instruction set used for improving performance in vector processing tasks.

So check with chatgtp if your processor supports AVX2, if not you can only hope for devs to fix this or upgrade your CPU
Hey ! So it can't be that because I checked every lowest processor they recommend and the AMD Ryzen 3 1200 doesn't have AVX2 and I'm pretty sure they wouldn't recommend something people can't play with.

You'd be wrong.

The AMD Ryzen 3 1200 supports AVX2.

CIV 7 requires AVX2.

By the way, AVX2 came out in 2013.

Will they be crediting back the people who bought the founder's addition? What was the point in buying that if we are unable to play it? It is 2pm MST, and I am still not able to play it.

Yes the I7-4710HQ supports AVX2.

For anyone having this issue with a CPU that supports AVX2 (you can check the specs on TechPowerUp for instance), you may have a motherboard that disables AVX (including AVX2 ) by default. So check your BIOS settings.

If you can't play it, submit a refund request to Steam.

If you are having this issue and it is in fact related to the CPU and AVX vs. AVX2 support, in Steam go to Help/System Information and look under the information for your processor.

This what it says for my processor:
AVX: Supported
AVX2: Unsupported
AVX512F: Unsupported
AVX512PF: Unsupported
AVX512ER: Unsupported
AVX512CD: Unsupported
AVX512VNNI: Unsupported

Yeah mine is the same.

AVX: Supported
AVX2: Unsupported
AVX512F: Unsupported
AVX512PF: Unsupported
AVX512ER: Unsupported
AVX512CD: Unsupported
AVX512VNNI: Unsupported

If it does require AVX2 I haven't seen it noted anywhere.

Daniel.

It's noted in the minimum requirements with the CPUs that are listed. AVX2 came out in 2013 and if you are running a CPU that came out in 2014 or later, you should be able to run CIV 7.
