Marathon speed is good n all but...
It's almost impossible to advance anything, because the turns take so long, hasn't been balanced at all.

??? You need the exact same Time to play out your Turn on Marathon as you do on Standard. If you mean that everything takes a long time to build/research .. that is exactly what Marathon is about.

No you don't. Not even close. I got 1 town out, which was disbanded.. now I got no towns, for some reason I have 4 commanders.. only had 1 before and a load of soldiers. It's like the game is longer but shorter.. if that makes any sense.

To be honest you lost me there. I play on Marathon and everything looks perfectly normal to me. The only Thing I noticed is that the Age length (set to long) goes a bit to fast for my liking on Marathon Game Speed.
Age length is clearly broken on Marathon. I'm guessing it's still set to use the normal speed amount of turns. I just entered the discovery era in my first game (turn ~150), set to marathon speed. Not a single civ other than me had a second settlement, nor did anyone earn a single progress point on the age thingy. I spec'd hard into science and I barely started mathematics before the age ended despite blitzing for it. IMO marathon is unplayable with the current non-marathon game length.

Yeh that's what it feels like. You also have to [remeet all the civs again] (No there's new civs here now) in exploration age.. annoying design methinks.

Have to wait 69 turns just to put settler in deep ocean tiles lol.

I just had a very similar marathon game. The age runs out way too fast for marathon or epic. I'm sure they'll fix that but it is a bit disappointing. Guess I'll play on the faster settings for awhile.

Made exactly the same experience

Yeah, currently age speed is totally broken in marathon.

Age transition is too quick and you have time to do nothing. This is absurd.

Also the rewards/costs are out of proportion as well, like 360 influence but you only get 25 or so per turn. 900+ gold and it takes awhile to accumulate. Once you're established it isn't so bad tho.
Yeah totally agree, its way too fast on Marathon - not balanced or tested at all...shame

Yeh restarting on standard speed for now. It's just way too fast.
Where the hell is the settings for this and other stuff? I am not seeing it anywhere?

There's a setting to make the ages last longer but it doesn't seem to help much. I still ended the exploration age with only 3 treasure fleets spawned because it took so long to get to the necessary tech. I've been trying to find the age length settings in the data files but I'm not having any luck.

There is a game-speeds.xml file which has so many numbers in it I don't know where to start.

However it does keep mentioning 'Half' scaling and 'Slight' scaling, which I'm wondering if it refers to the Age length settings somehow?

Also it seems that you can set the 'Monthly Increment' and 'Turns Per Increment' for each speed setting for each Age in this file, which I'm guessing might control how fast the Age progress goes up?

Unfortunately the file is very basic and lacking of explanations by the developer.

Sorry but I don't follow you :) I'm playing my first game ever, set as lowest difficulty just to learn the fundamentals, and I made it research not even 10 techs that the age ended... I didn't even reach bronze working and made an archer yet! I'm not a newbe of Civ franchise and I know more or less how to play, but this is completely broken... age is already at 90% at turn 131 (a couple of civs felt to independent cities and speed up the process but the feel is still the same. It's not a marathon game, balance is completely KO).
