The 2K account stuff is blocking me out of multiplayer
I've had my 2K account linked to Steam since Civ VI, but the Civ VII game refuses to recognize the connection. The bottom-left button remains grayed out, completely unresponsive to clicks.

I double-checked the link status through 2K's website, confirming everything's supposedly in order... yet the problem persists.

Seeing several threads about this exact issue across forums,I just do not understand why would developers lock core game features behind this problematic 2K account system. At least in Civ VI the broken account integration was not a barrier that blocks access to content.

I too am experiencing this issue. Restarted steam, verified files, restarted pc, disabled firewall, re-linked steam account to 2k account on web browser, ran as administrator, restarted. nada.

Glad to see I'm not the only one, I've been banging my head against the wall trying to fix it. Done just about everything I can to get it to work, but no luck. Just submitted a help ticket to 2K, so hopefully they will figure it out soon

same issue. I refuse to make a new account just to access the content that I paid for. Get your affairs in order 2k.
Same issue I’ve also tried all of the same steps mentioned, my friend was promoted for a 2k account login when he launched

I found a fix! I had quotation marks in my name (was "Holy""West" before) and I took them out and it worked fine. Maybe special characters break the connection?

Have you tried making a new one? My 2k account was from the time of Beyond Earth, so probably an old email, I made a new one and everything works fine.

I think I figured it out. After changing my steam username from \/\/ ! /\/\ to WIM and relinking my steam account, it is now connecting to 2k upon login.  There must be an error with one or more of the characters in usernames.  / \ !

Same I had quotation marks <"> in my Steam name and it would not work. Removed them and then relinked and it worked just fine. Seems like a bug with their Civ 7 systems as I do not have this issue with the linking for Civ 6.

Game devs need to stop making their own/3rd party logins for all their games.

It never works, it always breaks stuff. See: Almost any game that requires a Epic Account signin, Playstation Account games that break if Playstation is down (even if it's a singleplayer game), etc

I’m getting the same thing. Login credentials seem to be incorrect. A password reset email never arrives and create new account doesn’t work. I bought this game specifically for multiplayer. How stupid to lock it behind additional sign in nonsense

I might be a bit late for this but the quotation marks was also my issue as Holy West stated before, I had John "Soap" MacTavish as my in game name and once I removed the quotes on it the account logged right away!

Thanks for the fix Holy West ! :steamhappy:
There is a bug with special characters. Remove them from your steam name and it will link automatically.
