Millennia had the same exact issue... no edge scrolling at launch. And that was one of several basic things that was missing that led me to refund Millennia.
For Civ 7, though, the UI looked bad from everything I saw for a while, so no need to refund something I didn't even buy, fortunately.
But the UI and control for this never looked great, so that's not shocking that edge-scrolling isn't present and players have to drag-pan.
Seriously, though, I hope they fix this soon. It's a small thing, but it annoys me every second I'm playing the game.
Edge panning, you're trying to select something or see something and the screen scoots off away from where you're looking.. much like the edge panning that happens with the minimap.. so it is in the game and it is still as annoying as it was before. Use the Arrow Keys. They move the map precisely to where you need it.
So, your opinion is that removing the very option of not playing like you personally want to play is the better way to go? Because if you didn't like edge panning all you had to do in Civ 6 was go into the options and click the box that disabled the function. It was an option, you could have it both ways, and now you can't.
Removing that option literally, objectively made the game worse, because it made the game less enjoyable for a large group of people.
The lack of edge panning also happens to be the single most complained about thing since Civ 7 launched, so you're in a pretty tiny minority for not wanting the option.
