it seems i'm kinda half-wrong, you can still drag-pan with left mouse but edge-pan is entirely gone. >:V

Millennia had the same exact issue... no edge scrolling at launch. And that was one of several basic things that was missing that led me to refund Millennia.

For Civ 7, though, the UI looked bad from everything I saw for a while, so no need to refund something I didn't even buy, fortunately.

But the UI and control for this never looked great, so that's not shocking that edge-scrolling isn't present and players have to drag-pan.

Very very very strange why there is no edge scrolling. So far the game feels regressive in QOL and UI functionality. I am not sure why things we are used to are just discarded. Either the developers are new to the genre or ... I'm not sure. Very puzzling and I hope things gets addressed quickly.
I hope it is added soon.

LITERALLY UNPLAYABLE

Seriously, though, I hope they fix this soon. It's a small thing, but it annoys me every second I'm playing the game.

Not if you only have 1 hand available.

Yes thank god they took that out. You want smooth panning, use the keyboard arrow keys. Stop complaining over a mechanic that actually did the opposite.

Not everyone plays games the same way that you do, and including an option that was available in previous games in the series hurts literally no one.
2025 and no edge pan, brain dead devs.

My point is exactly that to you..

Edge panning, you're trying to select something or see something and the screen scoots off away from where you're looking.. much like the edge panning that happens with the minimap.. so it is in the game and it is still as annoying as it was before. Use the Arrow Keys. They move the map precisely to where you need it.

So, your opinion is that removing the very option of not playing like you personally want to play is the better way to go? Because if you didn't like edge panning all you had to do in Civ 6 was go into the options and click the box that disabled the function. It was an option, you could have it both ways, and now you can't.

Removing that option literally, objectively made the game worse, because it made the game less enjoyable for a large group of people.

The lack of edge panning also happens to be the single most complained about thing since Civ 7 launched, so you're in a pretty tiny minority for not wanting the option.
