Relax, homie. Rather than be smug about it, maybe go play the game?
I've bought tons of games from GMG and never had an issue. I saved $20 bucks on the Founders edition, but if I have to wait until the advertised release time tonight, then "oh well".
You can only sell a key bought with a stolen card if your using a grey market website. Greenman gaming, humble, etc are not marketplaces they are authorised retailers selling keys officially.
Guestimation and way too much time and too many games on Steam. I could be entirely wrong, since I'm not super familiar with advanced access nor do I know the specifics in this case, so it's not more than an educated guess as to the specific problem, but I am confident in how keys work. Basically each "game" on Steam is a license, with all the additional DLC and editions and all that being a separate license. Keys can grant one or more licenses, and sometimes specific editions are bundled in a way that grants multiple things but doesn't necessarily match the existing license on the Steam store.
Because keys often have, for example, regional pricing, but third party retailers might not have the same geographical verification that Steam has, they'll often grant different licenses than purchasing directly through Steam (where the regional pricing is baked into the Steam purchase flow) so when you redeem a key for a game on Steam, the license you get is actually a region controlled version (so, for most cases, a W(orld)W(ide)/R(est)O(f)W(orld) key that redeems for most regions without specialized pricing or a key specific to a region where the pricing is different which will be designated with a country or economic region code- the key I redeemed from GMG was a Founders Edition WW key, for example).
That way Steam can prohibit unauthorized activation of keys in regions outside of their intended distribution (so you couldn't buy a key from CIS where keys are often cheaper and activate it in the US where prices are "default"), but in doing so if the license granted by the key isn't actually pointing towards the same edition as you purchased on Steam, but instead, say, granting all the individual DLC licenses and the base game license, it might not activate Advanced Access or preorder bonuses or whatever might be included in a direct purchase on Steam.
It's not a shady grey market like G2A.
We recently discovered that some codes purchased through third-party stores (like GMG and Wingamestore) weren't properly unlocking the Deluxe Edition and Founders Editions for Advanced Access. This was an honest mistake on our end—something new for us to learn from! Once we identified the issue, we worked with Valve and quickly got it fixed, and everything should now be working as intended.
If you redeemed a Deluxe or Founders' code earlier and couldn't start playing, try restarting Steam and checking again. If you're still running into trouble, contact our support team.[support.civilization.com]
We appreciate your patience, and more than anything, we appreciate you. Thanks for being part of this journey with us! https://support.civilization.com/hc
