We want DRAMA, dammit! Why are you such a killjoy?
What is ironic is that while a lot of the drama you see in this forum is about the age transition, including the crises and civ-switching, taking things from you, if you think about it, the age transitions create all sorts of gameplay drama. They were put in to interrupt a player's post-snowball victory march by bringing in drama. The Dramatic Ages mode in 6 was, in retrospect, clearly their test bed for age transitions.
I don't understand why all the drama queens don't love age transitions. Competition maybe, stealing their thunder.
it's the play pattern i've had since civ 2. as soon as planes, battleships, and tanks are a thing i'm done. idk maybe i just enjoy the historical side of the game more.
edit: Side note. i've missed upgrading my throne room since forever. when do we get it back Lol.
You guys need to play "Old World"
I'll wait. Maybe a year. Or two. And the I decide whether it's worth buying. Reviews are petty mixed (press and YT).
How often did that happens in your playtroughs?
And how van they be abrupt? You alleays have the countdown. And the end-age crisis. How can you be fully unafare of this?
I'm all out of popcorn from the previous few months of forum development. Nothing fun can happen when I'm out of popcorn
I didn't buy the game nor do I have access to a preview copy, this is based on Youtube content creators that are criticising it. When you or the AI reach certain goals in the current era, the counter "jumps". Marbozir says it surprisingly jumped from 85% to 100% in one turn as one AI completed something.

Abrupt quite often , the countdown is misleading just wait till your a few turns from capturing ( sadly you cant raise ) an enemy city and puff next turn the AI ticks a few boxes and end of war .
Hard reset all troops vanish and your back at peace for 800 years
My issue is more that when the ages change, so do the civs. That's eerily reminiscent of HumanKind, and it didn't work at all in that game.
I've loved the Civ series for a long time, but this is one where I am going to see others play it first and make a decision only well after the dust has settled. No workers. No barbs. And then changing civs with each age.
But like I started off with, the age/era system in this is, itself, not a terrible idea... it's just that it's linked to re-picking civs, and that's a system I saw create nothing but immersion and balance problems for HumanKind.
