DLCs not included in any of the Deluxe Editions?
Just did a double take when realizing that next to plenty of cosmetic, advanced access and 'new leaders' perks... none of the Deluxe Editions actually include future expansions or DLCs. Which is a bit odd, given the price point,

but also makes me wonder whether this is the publisher being wary of the game not being as successfull, and not wanting to commit to something that might be unprofitable (particularly with Steam's new policies on punishing publishers that pre-sell DLCs that aren't delivered upon).

Am I missing something or are they really charging 130 bucks for a base game plus cosmetics and some modifier switchups (which is all that leaders do, really) rather than actual content?

it comes with the crossroads of the world, which adds 2 new leaders, 4 new civs and new wonders.
each civ and leader come with their own abilities and the civs have unique units and buildings.
so its not just perks and cosmetics.

the founders edition comes with crossroads of the world and right to rule, which also adds adds 2 new leaders, 4 new civs and wonders.

The deluxe and founders edition do contain dlcs which will be released later on. Deluxe contains one dlc, founders contains two.

I only see leaders, civs and cosmetics being mentioned. No talk of actual expansions or gameplay content beyond.

It would be silly to have a gameplay expansion at launch ^^;
It’s more like a season pass with more civs, leaders, units, buildings...
I guess we won’t have a significative gameplay expansion before 2026.

Yes it's part of the con, withheld content which should have been in the base game

Civilizations, Wonders, and Leaders for the smaller DLC packs.

The two expansions will take a year each to develop.

Total development cycle = 2.4 years.

Christmas is coming. Get comfy. It's going to be a long ride.

How is it a con?

I haven't purchased this because you'd have to be a moron to buy a civ game at launch or indeed anything that touches 2k. You wait until at least a year when the game is finally half finished. You then get it for next to free as a giveaway after they apologise to fans and you then look to see if the DLC is worth the extra money or not.

This is how they roll. It isn't a problem. You'll then get a few years of fun out of civ 7 until they destroy the start of civ 8.

That would be Day-0 expansions. My gripe is that there isn't any expansions whatsoever, so the opposite of what you're complaining about.

To clarify, leaders, civs or wonders are only broadening the scope of the game, not adding new gameplay mechanic like, to draw from previous franchise titles; a UN congress, a system of global trade companies, climate change management... I was referring to the complete absence of even a mention of the latter.

(Though I'll admit that with leader progression and the civ's innate culture trees, a DLC pack containing civs or leaders is at least a tad more impactful than the CIV6 equivalents.)

yeah no yearly pass, thats the first 6 months of dlc, expect two more and bigger expansion before the years up

assuming the pricing for the founders is just the sum of its parts it looks like they are doing

Culture, leader and wonder packs four times a year for around 30 bucks each

and at a guess each year there will be a majour expansion which will feature an age and a big feature. im betting first one will be medieval age + religion done properly.

information age seems like a safe bet down the road.

what they charge for these? 50? 60? bucks

At the end of all, if you want all DLC and expansions, it's going to cost a pretty penny. This is an ongoing trend with games and strategy games in particular.
While I'll partially agree as getting nickle'd and dime'd for civs/leaders is rather annoying, it is what they need to do to keep pushing out content.

So the base price you pay is basically covering their many years of work and development in the game. Do you want new content? More improvements? New content? Well that takes people working on these things which in turn costs more money. They could do what you see some companies do and just release it, throw maybe a few patches into it and be done with it. That has never been the case for Civ games.
At the end of the day it's a business, they're here to make great games yes, but also to make money. Are they supposed to put all the time and resources in just to break even? Do you go to work and expect not to make any money for what you do? People crying just because they expect everything for free is tiresome. If paying for dlc is that unthinkable, when you go into work today, tell them you're working for free today because people shouldn't be paid for work they do..
