Worth the money
I don’t get why there are so many complaints about the price, especially for the DLCs. A single weekend vacation costs me twice as much as all the paid content for Civ 7 over several years. When you break it down, the cost per hour of entertainment is easily ten times better than most alternatives, like going to the movies.

Ah who cares what they think or their reasons. The only thing that matters is what works for you. Personally I value time more then money (as retired time is more precious) and will spend the few bucks to play it early and all that.

Those that want to wait (or never get it) find that to be a better value proposition. In the end... nobody cares :)

Good way to look at it.

Value for money with this game is off the charts.

I won't even get the same amount of hours out of Creed or Anno 117.

If you count two expansions and throw in an extra 20 for good measure.

160 + 40 + 40 + 20 = 260. Plus tax = $300

Over the course of a 2 1/2 year development cycle you'll likely get 1,000 hours of gameplay. Possibly more.

Best bang for your buck = Civilization VII.

Gaming is a hobby.

There are more expensive hobbies/recreational activities out there. The sport of triathlon is more expensive than gaming.

Had a girlfriend into dressage riding. Try that for expensive.

I bought Civ 1 when it released in 1991 for about $45, which is about $105 today. Games are far cheaper than they used to be, even with higher development costs. And while it's true that DLC exists for Civ games today where it didn't back then, the base games still give a lot of value for the amount of time you can spend on them.

THIS ^

Out of all the hobbies that I, my wife and two kids have, gaming is by far the cheapest. It's also the one that we all can more frequently enjoy together.

It's interesting to see how people try to justify their investment in the game.

"Yeah I have and I will put hundreds of $ into the game, I don't care I'm getting milked by a big corporation, because I have fun. Girls just wanna have fun!"

My thoughts exactly.

But still, because of my experience with 6 (which was poor on release), I shall wait for a few upgrades and DLC before giving it a try.

Also, I still have not achieved my ambition of winning Civ 6 with every leader at Emperor level.
People that compare video game prices to anything other than video game prices are just lost.

The alternative is they don't release any new content for the game. So, by your logic, you either expect them to boycott a product they'll enjoy or expect the company to release all future content for free.
If you can afford it, then no rationalization is needed.

That's incorrect. You should always think about the value of your purchases.

I can afford the Founder's Edition, but I still think that it is massively overpriced.

I didn't say you shouldn't make a reasoned decision, but if it's something you want, and you can afford it without depriving your children of things they need, then there's no reason to engage in convoluted rationalizations to justify your purchase.

Another way to put it is that if you have to rationalize it, then you can't afford it.
Gaming is not a hobby for me. It's a need (also because I'm a beginner dev). And the need to play good games just becomes too expensive, especially if you consider what's going with gpu prices and optimization in the last few years. So the situation is definitely a crisis that needs to be resolved.
Fell sorry for everybody who brought this
I have a rule of $1 spent per hour of gaming at a minimum. Civilization is by far the best bang for the buck, considering I have over 1,500 hours on Civ VI alone. Assuming $150 spent, that's still $0.10 per hour
It's expensive any way you look at it. It's just a matter of how much disposable income you feel justified. This kind of post is written by a young person. Like, honestly who cares how you spend your money?
