IGN gaves 7/10 because Tooltip etc doesnt give good information
Its my first 4X game, im giving a try in civ7 because they said its welcome for newcomer. So when the review comes, i see 7/10 in ign, gladly its not about performance, which is great news for me.

But after i read the article, something about tooltip in this game looks concerning, here it is :
the interface, which simply doesn't provide enough of the information I would hope to find in a strategy game of this complexity. Learning to play Civ 7 is downright frustrating, and while I eventually figured out how to live with its woefully inadequate tooltips and barren Civilopedia entries, I never liked it. I constantly found myself hovering over things and left-clicking, right-clicking, holding down Shift, Alt, Ctrl, screw it, ScrollLock – anything in the hope that I could bring up more information. But it’s just not there.

In one of my first campaigns, I saw a little guy called a Kahuna wandering around my territory. Now, I could open up the Civilopedia and type in “Kahuna” and find out that he's a unique missionary available to the Hawaiian civ. But bar that, I don't have any information available here on the map about what he is. Is he a military unit? Is he dangerous? What is he doing here? Can I eat him? Likewise, clicking on a city center will bring up a basic info view, and you can click a button to show more information. But not a lot more information. Rarely enough.

As i said before, this is my first 4X game, if i have to search google for every aspect in this game. looks like i have to refund and will buy it again after some improvements especially in UI

From what I've seen it's not that the information isnt there at all but that you have to do extra clicks to get it. Note that Firaxis mentioned in an interview working on UI improvements. We will also see what the first patch look like in March and it's fine to wait until you feel more confident.

Civilization has always been easy to learn with good tooltips and a good in-game Encyclopedia in the past.

A pity that would drop the ball on that now.
they gave civ6 high score so stop coping I guess

I've seen multiple people say the tutorial system is strong, even if the ui info system needs work. Is that relevant to a new player? Something to think about.
The same IGN that gave Veilguard a 9/10 and called it amazing.

Adding, "If we never get another Dragon Age, at least it went out on a high note."

---

It's reasonable to think that because the game will take over two years to complete, it doesn't deserve more than a seven. But damn, the potential for an 8 is certainly there.

The two expansions will tell all.

Listening to a developer speak yesterday about the future of Civ VII, all he could say was, "It will change."

That means no more Giant Death Robots. Looking forward to see what they add.

Hoping for SupCom-style Experimentals.

better to wait for anthology in few years or just skip and move on to civ 8
Disappointing, but if you want to learn Civ, I'd highly recommend finding a let's play to watch. IMO, there's no substitute for watching someone who knows what they're doing.

I just watched the review. That was literally a small portion of why it got rated a 7.
IGN review where is Gandhi
Sounds like IGN is upset they didn't get any money from 2K for this one.

I've refunded my preorder since that review.

I can live with all kind of imperfections besides this one. A studio that feel the need to dumb down information available on a game like Civ doesnt deserve my money.

I'll gladly buy the game once it's fixed and i can find every info I need ingame though.

That defeats the entire point of playing a civilization game.

Learning how to play the game from someone who knows defeats the point of playing the game?

I'm surprised to hear about the not so great UI. Ara: History Untold stumbled over the starting line last year because of bad UI, I was thinking that Civ 7 would learn from its competition.

A german reviwer said there are information, but they are not needed. You can play the game on normal difficulty without knowing everyrhing detail. Thats more important for high difficultys and when you want every advantage you can get.

There’s already been a publication about how performance comes to a crawl late game. But I imagine it takes longer to reach that point given the formation mechanic minimising unit spam on the map and removal of builder units also helps there.
