Sid Meier's Civilization VII

Sid Meier's Civilization VII

Reviews are In
PCgamesN - 7/10
IGN - 7/10
Eurogamer - 2/5
Pcgamer - 76

There are other outlets with higher scores but there are also some major players putting these in the 70's. I'm concerned.

This is the only civ game i will not buy, why. It will probably fry my graphics card. Stupid use of ages, Appalling use of leaders . Missing content at launch and worst of all making ready made content pay to play weeks after launch

so the scores for the newer game is less than all the others, they are still decent scores though.
Didn't the smeagol game get some of the same review scores too?

also, pigeon vs Game Journalist is a real thing and the pigeon won...

No.

A reviewer, looking for clout, isn't going to give this game a decent review.

They're going to try to stir up as much controversy and drama as they can.

Take all current reviews with this in mind.
No reviewer with an audience will give a low score "for the sake of it" because they are not insane.

For example, the Gamespot reviewer that gave Cyberpunk 2077 a relatively low score (7) was harassed for weeks, doxxed and gotten death threats over it.

I don't think anyone would ever want that, this is just a paycheck, not worth it.

Concerned about scores at mostly at 7 out of 10? That's a respectable score unless you're a AAA zealot and only buy 'the best rated' games. Neglected to mention anything other than 'dedicated' game mags - for example, The Guardian gave it 5/5 - make that of it what you will. Even that rating wouldn't make me buy the game - I'm into what I see, hear and feel about a game across many forums rather than tie myself in knots over just what gaming mags say. Looking forward to the early release!
Not concerned with an 80% overall rating. That's extremely solid for a non cinematic game these days.
I remember learning in history class how Napoleon decided France was going nowhere and decided to get on his horse and Ghengis Khan his way across Asia...

It's an 80 on metacritic right now. That's decent. A low point for Civ but people are usually pretty change adverse when it comes to big series but change is good.
Something to keep in mind with reviews. These people all do this sort of thing for their income. Which means they are going to always say the things that will get them the most views, clicks, subscribers, etc. What does that?

Vitriol. Hate. Anger. Rage. Etc. These get the most interactions, thus the most income.

Civ, has always been a troubled game series at launch due to the myriad variable factors that come into play with PC gaming and the near infinite amount of possible builds that can exist out there at any given time.

They could make the game so it runs perfectly without any flaws on at least one setup rig of parts as per the minimum-recommended requirements; and people will still find issues with it. Somehow.

I'm not buying it, because of Denuvo. I would have bought it in the past even though it had denuvo or some other such. But not this time. It could work perfectly on my machine. Still not buying it.

Why?

Because I know from experience that after they get their lions share of the income possible from the sale of this release, they'll finally fix most of those problems people have with it; and it will be on sale no less.

This is a result of their marketing methods, their development methods, their publishing methods, etc. Unintended consquences as it were. They didn't intend for people to buy their game less than before. They intended for it to be bought more due to the attempt to thwart piracy. The result? Less people are going to buy it now, because they as legal buyers of the product are being treated as criminals.

Will the game be fun? Some will think so. Might even be right.

Will the game run well enough? Probably, though like usual with all Civ games, an upgrade will probably be needed for some folk.

Will the game be worth the money? Right now?

No, probably not. Civ is often a game I buy, try a few times at launch to see how it's doing, then put aside for a few months to a year or so for the devs to finish their job.

Will it be worth it once on sale?

Yes, almost without a doubt. Only almost, because Beyond Earth still exists, and still isn't fixed properly.
Pre-purchased it. I expect bugs, I expect imbalances, may be even some crashes. I expect mostly mediocre reviews. But I know, I KNOW, I will enjoy it. Can't wait!
critic scores normally rate too high not too low. 7/10 from IGN of all people should have you concerned.

Surprising how some people still seem to think this means anything.

If they are stupid enough to make financial choices like denuvo, I don't have high hopes for this game at all.

On what planet is Civ 6 better than 5?

Earth. Never heard of it ? It's third planet of the Sol system, you can't miss it.

Guess you like strategy games with a non functioning AI. You do you I guess.
As usual, to buy with the complete edition in about 5-6 years. Not like we were done with Civ VI.
