It's Civ, so I expect it to be good regardless. I'm not expecting anything mind-blowing - GOTY style game.

I'm not concerned. Without actually reading the reviews in question, a score of seven out of ten suggests to me that it's a good game that just didn't blow the socks off the reviewer, which,to be fair, we're in the seventh iteration of a decades old franchise, so I wouldn't expect it to. A score of seven typically means that fans of the genre will enjoy it, but others may not, which is fair, because strategy games are a niche.

The only thing the numbers above specifies is that 2K / Firaxis didn't pay the "journos" enough, that's all.

Meta Critic is sitting at 80 right now, which is better than the 4 reviews you cherry picked would indicate, though a bit worse than Civ VI's 88.

Don't really care about arbitrary numerical scores, the numbers are meaningless.

But reading those reviews can be informative. So far what seems more glaring is that the game has UI issues - something the series never really had before, as presentation and UI were always civ's strengths.

Guess that's not news for people that have been following streams and such, but I haven't.

Yes the UI being trash has been an ongoing concern since the first previews.
