Nukes... What is it good for?
looking at the dev diary i am kind of disappointed regarding nukes. If you only unlock them in the last step before achieving the military victory which means the game is basically over at that point and it THEN also take 2/3 of the production to build one that it would take to build the win condition... why should a player ever even build one when he can just win the game at nearly the same time.

I hoped for arms races with other players and nukes being a factor to decide if you really want to start a war with player X.

Also that they are unachievable without following the military path is not good in my eyes...
It makes sense thematically... yes... but gameplay wise... i think its unfun.

overall nukes seem pointless in the way they are implemented in right now...

Right now is the key phrase because the game is incomplete.

As a military player, I'm okay with. I'm not going to start nuking people at the end of the game if Operation Ivy is the victory condition. Just complete Operation Ivy and be done with it.

Be patient. Know that the game is under construction. Work with what you have. The future of this game will not end with the current timeline.

I know that the Modern Age will be the most difficult, with the introduction of land, sea, and air power. It won't be like Civ VI where you send in bombers and call it a day, while the AI does nothing to defend itself.

This will be the first Civilization game that puts the intelligence in Artificial Intelligence.

The AI may give you a lot more to think about than nukes.

i am not here to hate (allthough i sadly noticed a habit in the discussion section here...)

i mention it to give feedback and an opinion and to have a discussion about it (+ maybe hoping that feedback reaches the development team)

Maybe with marathon setting there will be more time to use nukes
or at the least, a mod that will allow it

Yeh.. Seems Firaxis are anti nuke, that said, when I use them the game is effectively ruined anyway, which is I think their point.

I don't like the Win Scenarios. There's Dominion and nothing else for me.

From what I gathered, you build the atomic bomb which can be used. You need heavy bombers to deliver the bomb. Once you build the atomic bomb, you have the option to try to build operation ivy (hydrogen bomb). The first person to build that wins. So in theory, you could have multiple people with the ability to build and use the atomic bomb at the same time.
My memory of the livestream is that you actually have to drop the A-bomb you get as a result of finishing the Manhattan Project wonder. That lets you start the Operation Ivy wonder, which wins you the game on completion. In the livestream they made it clear that you could, after finishing the Manhattan Project, build more A-bombs than the one the Project gives you. This could be necessary because you might, as universecreep points out, not have researched heavy bombers yet, and you need a heavy bomber to drop the one A-bomb you need to drop to start Operation Ivy. Then, there's the time interval it takes you to finish Operation Ivy, during which your A-bombs may be helpful in keeping any of your competitors from winning first.

Overall, sure, nukes are marginalized. Sounds good to me. I always hated nukes, and GDRs, and XCOM squads, etc., which is one of the reasons I always tried my best to end a game of 5 or 6 before they were unlocked.

62 tears old, played all iterations of the game and have never once used a nuke.

i'm not sure this is the flex you think it is. it's part of the game. war is my least favorite way to win but if i'm paying for the nukes i'm trying them out. do yourself a favor a drop some nukes for fun

I agree this sucks but hey keep the score/time off and nuke for fun
If you don't use nukes the AI wont nuke you. In Civ 5.

Strong rumor has that there is an entire age, the fourth age, that won't be released for months. This game only goes to about 1950 or so.

IF this is the case, then there will likely be plenty of opportunity to irradiate the planet.

Ditto. =)
So, it's an incomplete game. Need the whole span of years as with other sims. A gaming encyclopedia is great, but don't change the baseline game.

This attitude is ruining gaming for all of us. Willing acceptance of the mediocre and unfinished. What a poor point of view to have. Grow some and don't stand for that crap.
