Best Path to make a Philippines civ
I know the first look video suggests pairing Jose Rizal with Hawaii, but I think Inca can also be a good fit for the Terrace Farms. What do Filipinos think about this?

If Philippines were a civ, I would consider them to be an economic, Culture focused civ.

So with the goal of going Inca to secure Terrace Farms, and going with Economic and Cultural focused civs, I'm thinking of this path:

Mississippi-> Inca -> Mexico

The early game focus on trade and economy via Mississippi and Inca should allow you to carry that strong economy into the late game when you switch to a more Culture focused Mexico.

Some problems I see with this, is Mississippi have a start bias toward flat land, so there might not be a lot of mountains nearby to make many Terrace Farms. It would be a gamble to see if it works.

Please share thoughts for how you would build a civ that would resemble the Philippines as closely as possible without mods.

Your a long way off from the Philippines with a Mississippian > Inca > Mexico mindset.

Would you like to play for North America?

We'll hire you.

---

The Philippines is surrounded by Vietnam, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, and Taiwan.

You'd want to finish the game with Siam.

Leading up to it, your most realistic choices would be:

Khmer > Majapahit > Siam

Khmer > Ming China > Siam

Hmm good point. Siam does seem to be a much closer fit than Mexico. I guess I was looking for how to incorporate Terrace Farms and Inca are the only civ that gets them.

Khmer > Majapahit > Siam seems to be the closet fit. I'll just forget about Terrace Farms :steamhappy:
Sorry, I forgot about Spanish colonization and the Spanish-American War.

You could also go Khmer > Spain > Siam.

Until things change in the future, if they add the Philippines.

---

The Americans took control of the Philippines after the Spanish-American war.

The Philippines gained independence from America in 1946 after WW II, that's why you can't include them.

Khmer > America > Siam isn't possible because America is a Modern Civilization.

I'm just trying to give either Spain or America credit.

Khmer > Spain > Siam could work too. Would certainly represent the colonization period.

Seems easy enough to let the AI capture a settlement to unlock it. I'm still knocking around an idea to somehow get Inca shoehorned in. The unlock criteria seems really difficult to achieve.

Without including Terrace Farms, I feel like a very significant part of Philippines culture is missing.

If you can somehow get enough mountains to unlock it, Khmer > Inca > Siam seems like the dream path.
Now I see where we are both thinking differently.

I was wondering what Terrace Farms had to do with the Philippines when it's a unique tile improvement of the Incan civilization.

I'm thinking more about maps and you're thinking about terrace farming agriculture.

Both the Philippines and the Inca used a sophisticated agricultural system to grow crops on mountainsides by carving steps into the mountains. You want the Incan agricultural system, the Terrace Farm, to emulate Philippine agriculture.

To do that you'll have to incorporate the Inca into your Exploration Age plans.

I don't think Khmer > Inca > Siam will work.

If you want Terrace Farming that badly, you may have to go back to your original plan of Mississippian > Inca > Mexico.

At least until we can experiment with the game.
