It's definitely different than past iterations. Remains to be seen if it's for the best.
Not impressed with the leader choices. How do you leave out George Washington for america, and Machiavelli? Really?

The only one I care about it missing is Gandhi. That nuke loving mad bastard is kinda the staple of Civ games...which means, I'm sure he'll come out and cost money.

That's not a good start.

Hit the books and watch some videos.

There are a handful of good Deity videos and a 7-Part Developer Diary series on the official website to teach you about many of the changes.

You've got time to warm up and stretch.

10 more days.

"I don't know anything about the game but think it will be bad."

You don't need to share every idea that pops into you head.
The videos I've watched seem to confirm my two biggest worries: The AI still sucks and the map generator still sucks. Given the lack of civs and $70 price tag, I'm definitely leaning towards waiting until the first big discount after the first major expansion to reconsider buying.

Could you link that videos?
Yeah, CIV V and VI sucked on release. It's safe to assume this won't be good on release.
Civ 7 doesn't feel very ambitious to me. It will be "fun" but it won't be impressive. This new entry is more expensive than ever before but it doesn't seem to offer much to justify the higher price tag.

I expect more from a 2025 title. It no longer being a PC exclusive series must have hurt the quality. Another victim of late stage capitalism.
Can't wait for them to release loads of features that should have been in the base game as DLC.

There's some truth to this.

Civ V was incredibly bland at launch. IIRC, no religion mechanic, very watered down culture mechanics, and no trade routes. Civ V changed the stacking mechanics (1 UPT) and did some other important things right away, but still, it was quite barebones.

Civ 6 was a bit more robust at launch, but had it's own issues as well. Culture was again very basic; there weren't golden ages or dark ages; a lot of natural disasters were missing (well, that's a mixed-bag of an addition for me, though).

I think the risk for Civ 7 isn't that it might be bad at launch (like a good many Civ games have started out). The risk is more that if certain design choices don't work, they are hard-wired into the game and can't be easily rectified. Changing civs when entering a new era is a feature that HumanKind tried and utterly failed to balance, and it proved immersion-breaking as well. If that happens with how Civ 7 executes their attempt at something similar, well, HK showed that it's virtually impossible to fix. That changing of civs is at the core of the game, and to replace it or undo it isn't feasible without basically starting over, so I really hope that they execute it in some way that HK never thought to.
Some people are gonna love it some are gonna hate it. I will wait and see, the game ending before the cold war (for the first time in any civ) is a big red flag for me, look at the way they handle DLC with their other games. This game could easily have $500 in piece DLC some day. So as much as i don't want to i'm gonna wait and see. People are right Civ 6 wasn't great when it first released now it's a great game. So hopefully i'm being overly cautious, i've just bought to many games recently from some of my most trusted devs and they have been badly written train wrecks. Not sure what has happened of the past 5 years but the talent at these companies seem to be gone.

yeah the AI still sucks, I don't know why, I mean every other 4x out there has better ai than the civ games yet here we are at the 7th iteration and still no good ai...
