How broken will the game be?
Remember Civ 6 release.. insane ai wiping out all the states and attacking the player within 10 turns, just zerging everything. To forward settling and complaining when you build a city just outside your lands (within 10 tile) Pretty much the same now really.

I suspect there will be bugs for sure.

It will probably take a few months to deal with the most egregious of them.

Overall, I suspect the game will be fun. At least I hope it is. It's been such a long wait. If CIv VII flops.....a gaming tragedy for me.

I'm not sure when a game flops if it's really the games fault, the customer is always right, how true is that of anything else. I also expect there will be fun times and things we don't like, maybe not liking is what makes overcoming more fun.
I do have a vague memory of there being some problems on the initial release of 6. Today I couldn't tell you what those problems were to save my life. I'm guessing maybe some bugs, probably some unforeseen exploits that unbalanced the game.

Why don't you recount some of these disasters from the 6 release? Might jog our memories.

The reason these memories are vague and need refreshing is that the problems were promptly dealt with, and I went on to enjoy over 2000 hours playing the game. Every now and then in the years following release, the game would throw a problem at me that took actual creativity to overcome. Those games I remember with crystal clarity, despite almost as much time elapsing since them, as since the initial release.

Such is life. I myself was an unplayable disaster on initial release, and the first few decades saw plenty of bugs and failed attempts at game-breaking exploits. Eventually the programming was ironed out, sort of, mostly.

It'll be a solid video game launch.

It won't be broken, bugged, and glitched like Baldur's Gate III was.

And it certainly won't have the dysfunctional AI that Civ VI had on launch, where transport ships were attacking battleships and units didn't know the difference between land and sea.

Civilization VII will be a top 20 Steam game. Year-round. No doubt about it.

This game is now the best of the series.

When people ask me, "What's your favourite Civ game?"

This one. No question.

I don't remember much in the way of bugs when Civ 6 dropped (not to say they didn't exist), but I do remember lots of folks complaining about how aggressive the barbarians were. Seems you used to just be able to ignore your early game military (unless you wanted to rush a nearby neighbor), but now you had to think about it. It took some getting used to, but, after I did, it made the game more fun--more challenging. But some people just hate change, I guess, because you heard complaints about it for the first month or so after the game dropped.

Same thing will happen with Civ 7, surely. Some people will not like some of the changes. And, legitimately, there's no reason you can't go back to your favorite "perfect" civ, whichever iteration that is. But I know I'm ready to learn something new and move on, even though I enjoyed both Civ 5 and 6.

I think the game release will be a disaster, a lot worse than even Civ 6. People will soon release they have bought only half a game. It is going to be a stripped down Paradox-like shell for future DLC.

The eras were not at all popular in Humankind and they are even more limited in Civ 7. And the lack of major factions like Britain over Bugtopia or whatever the hell that new country is called lol. Terrible decisions.

I think most people will hate the game. It might have some nice graphics but they will not save the game if it has terrible gameplay. I do not think Firaxis know how to make a classic game, they are no Microprose.

They'll sell a lot of copies to the phone/tablet gaming crowd, and the game will suck, especially for a Civ / (over) full priced PC title.

No bugs. Perfect launch. Streamers and 2k fooled everyone by only showing half the civs and leaders (Hello England). There are actually 5 eras in the game. Civ switching is optional. 2k/firaxis anounce that the expansion next year will be free. IGN hails it a the best civ since II, and this makes paradox change their dlc practices.

The closer it is to Alpha Centauri, the better. Hoping for water bases, designing own units, and the writing/voice acting of that game! Even the espionage was awesome.
hard to imagine civ 6 being worse than it is today.
I expect unless they have a couple days of pre-download, I'll be spending most of launch day downloading.

That's not a knock on this game, just the way things usually go for me with my chunky internet.

A general fail. It will peak at “mostly positive” as those who paid silly money will post a positive review, regardless, to make themselves feel better.
as someone who has played every civ since beginning, gonna be the same song and dance as nearly every time a new one came out.

people whinging, crying, and moaning "this is the worst civ ever!!1!1!11" (esp from people who don't even play) day 1 and then "omg this is the greatest civ ever!~" not even too long after that, rinse and repeat for every new installment.

it's not a phenomenon unique to the civ series, but civ is one that is especially known for it. there are entire essays, articles, and videos about this, old and new. lol

Except this one really will be the "worst Civ ever", as evidenced by the removal of the Modern Era, the inclusion of the unpopular nation changing mechanic from Humankind, the removal of several common nations that were available in other Civ games, the bad AI, the removal of barbarians and workers, the list goes on...

It might not end up being a "bad game" but it has every indication of being a bad CIV game.

Lol I think you have been at the drink too early. As in everything you just said is wrong. But it would be great if it was true.
